Hi,

I am going to be buying a new PSU this week for my i7 rig, and I had originally planned on getting the Be Quiet! Dark Power Pro 750w from OcUK Shop, but I had a look just now and noticed they have none in stock..

I really want the new PSU this week, so I was wondering whether anyone here could recommend one to me...

It has to be modular as I hate having unused cabling tucked out of the way it is a PITA!!

Also, I don't want anything under 750w... and I am willing to spend around £140 mark...

Thanks in advance ;)

The pc power and cooling 860W is a work of art, but is not modular.

Modular means tidier cables. It also means an additional point of resistance for every cable, and when you're sending 700W or so down the cables you want as few points heating up as possible. High wattage modular supplies seem hazardous to me

DavyBoy - have you seen my reply to your other thread? (i had an idea you might like to try out.)

The BeQuiet is available at other e-tailers. However, if you can get your head around it not being modular unit the Corsairs are a safe choice and in stock but again the modular version are on pre-order.

So you may have to do a bit of shopping around for the BeQuiet.

They are instock.

I ordered a 650w one (Be Quiet and modular) when it was out of stock but I didnt notice this at the time.
It hadnt dispatched the next day, so i sent a webnote asking if i can cancel and order the 750w instead. OCUK replied with, "sorry, it has already been dispatched" :(

Still happy with the PSU I now have sitting right in front of me waiting to be plugged into though :D

@ Ucof, check the site for yourself man, there are no 650w, 750w and 850w Be Quiet Dark power Pro units in stock here...

I have seen the 750w be quiet in stock on another site, but I really wanted to get it from here instead... but I can't find any other units that I like here, except for the Corsairs, but the 750w and 850w HX models aren't available yet...

I really want to go modular this time, because my current unit has fixed cables, and lots of them, and they are a real pest to keep tidy, whereas with a modular one I can just have the cables attached that I require which will make things a lot easier to keep tidy inside my case...

Surely if there was going to be a problem with modular PSU's manufacturers wouldn't make them in the first place??

I don't know anything about electricity, but I really wouldn't think having modular cables on a PSU isn't going to make any difference??

I had a look at the Zalman PSU's, but I am unsure about them tbh...

I really like the 1000w Corsair unit, but it seems a bit OTT to me, I can't see me needing 1000w anytime soon!!!

Ring up OCUK.

I didn't check when I ordered mine if they were in stock or not.
After I had ordered I checked and it said "None in stock", however, I couldnt cancel the order as they had dispatched it already.

Ring them up and ask if they have any in stock :)

I will call tommorow, but I can't see there being any in stock if the site says there are none...

Hopefully they will have them back in before Wednesday... if not I am really starting to think about the Corsair TX850 or 750w... Even though they are not modular, I would have thought they would have been decent units...

Is it Seasonic who manufacture Corsair units??

The Zalman heatpipe psu's are excellent. I have had my 750w one for around a year now and it has'nt missed a beat. Very quiet, efficient, stable, modular and in stock.

They are built by either Seasonic or Channel Well.

The higher powered units like the TX and HX series are made by Channel Well, corsair seem to be the best units they produce.

BeQuiet are overpriced, decent quality, but no better than a lot of others that are a good bit cheaper. The only reason to buy one over a cheaper quality brand is they are smaller in size, so if you have a small case and a larger PSU won't fit a BeQuiet could be a good buy.

I'd recommend the Corsair TX 750w or 850w if you have to buy now.

Or the Corsair HX 750W or 850w if you could wait, as it seems these two PSUs are the best on the market. (When they arrive) As good as, if not better than the Seasonic M12D and Antec Signature Series of PSUs.

Hmmm, I really don't know what to do??

I cant wait, thats one thing I do know, I will get a new PSU this week for sure...

Whether it's the BeQuiet, Pc Power and Cooling or the Corsair - modular or non-modular - you can be confident that which ever you decide on will be a quality PSU especialy when compared to your Hiper.

Decision, decisions... ;)

Truth to that. Hiper is not great.

I don't struggle at all with cable management, but then there is about an inch and half either side of my psu into which I push spare cables (wide case). Even on matx systems there is often a drive bay free into which cables can be pushed.

Be quiet have been recommended a lot on here recently, I'm sure a couple of months ago everyone recommended corsair. I suggest instead making your decision based on aftersale support and warranty. As an example,
PC power and cooling one is warranted for 7 years and individually hand checked before release. They come with a certificate showing a long list of rails tested and within required limits. You can also adjust them yourself with a multimeter if you're so inclined. It's also tiny compared with the one it replaced.
Finally, it was shipped as a replacement for a 90 quid ocz model that died on me (peacefully, without harming anything else). Cannot fault the company at all when they replace a dead supply with a far better one.

Reviews are useful too, but reviews of any of the top end will say the psu is very good.

The Seasonic M12D 850w would get my vote as it uses the latest tech - not long been released but it's over your budget, UK RMA base via nanopoint, 5 years guarantee, has the best components & silver rated for effiency, very very quiet as well.

My 2nd choice would be the Corsair HX 850W ATX Modular SLI Compliant Power Supply, it's on pre-order at the moment, good quality as well made by Channel Well Technology.

I've had the Zalman ZM1000-HP Heatpipe Cooled 1000W Modular Power Supply, very good PSU's with the heatpipe taking the heat it keeps the fan from speeding up at full load the only thing that put me off is the 3 year guarantee.

Pc Power & Cooling 860W are indeed one of the best (if not the best) psu money can buy.

They also have a single 12v rail which I prefer over split rails.

As for not being modular, it all depends on your case and how many components you have.

I had a modular enermax for a short while I found that I ended up plugging every cable in bar one so hardly any saving/benefit from being modular.

I find that my suplus cables bundle up and cable tie nicely and sit on the bottom of my case and I don't notice them.

Also to note the pc power & cooling has very long cables which is handy for big cases and cable management as you can run them behind mobos.

But if you want modular the Corsair is the best of the bunch in stock. As for too much power, I am a great believer in using only 50 -70% of a psu max power as that is when they are the most efficient and coolest so hence quiet fans.

I have been thinking about the HX1000 but it is way to expensive, and I dont think I will really need 1000w PSU!!!

The newer HX Corsair PSU's are more appealing to me tbh.. I just wish they would come into stock before tommorow...

But I really can't see this happening, so it looks like I am just going to have to shop elsewhere this time...

As for PC P&P I dont really like the look of those units, I prefer PSU's with large fans on the underside, not 80mm fans on the back.... I know they are supposed to be great units, but I also like things that are going to look nice inside my case as well!!!
