PSU recommendations...

The newer HX Corsair PSU's are more appealing to me tbh.. I just wish they would come into stock before tommorow...
7 year gurantee on the new ones as well, awesome.

I wonder what the effiency is of the HX850, I woudnt be surprised if it gets a silver rating because the efficiency is on par with the Seasonic M12D 850W judging from the hardocp review.

Some idiot has already reviewed it 5 stars on the OcUK website, thats ridiculous considering they don't even own one & are judging the rating based on the hardocp review - DAFT!

Yeah I spotted the review already for the HX850... what a clown whoever that was!!!

Well, I will be ordering my new PSU tommorow... I will check OcUK shop webpage to see if any Be Quiet or new Corsair PSU's are in stock, and if they still dont have any, then I am going to order the 850w Be Quiet! from elsewhere for £143.74 which isn't to bad IMO...

I have decided to go 850w instead, just so that I know I have got plenty of power there...

Sorry for the double post, but I just wanted to ask one thing before I buy my new PSU...

Does the 850w Be Quiet supply enough amps on the rails for my system?

I dont understand anything about this, and I am extremely worried that I am going to buy something that is going to be no good!!!

It says that it has 20amps on each 12v rail (there are 6 12v rails on the 850w) with a combined total of 68amps over all 12v rails... is this way more than enough for my rig??

I just used the Antec PSU calculator, and it tells me that for my system I would need to have at least 720w of continuous power to run my rig o/ced... so I guess this crappy Hiper 630w isn't up to the job after all...

Thats fine, you could run a GTX295 with that PSU no problem, I was running a i7 920 clocked at 4GHz, GTX295 etc off an 850W PSU no problem at all.

I've got a Plug-in Power & Energy Monitor, as far as I remember my draw from the socket wasnt more than 550W from the socket at full load so decent headroom - best efficiency is around 50% of the actual PSU rating.

Wow, I just checked my rig with the Be Quiet calculator, and it tells me that I need a 1000w PSU to power my rig!!!

Surely this cant be correct??

I used one from Antec last night and it told me that I needed 720w...

I am worried now that this Be Quiet PSU isn't going to cut it....

The rig in your signature? 450W would probably power that.

@ Nelly, I am sure I read somewhere that this Antec PSU can only be fitted into the Antec 1200 , P183 and P193 cases only...

Also, I have already placed my order for the 850w PSU...

@ Plec, thanks for posting this, that has put my mind at ease a little, but at the same time it has also made me a little weary about Be Quiet!!

That calculator is screwed up, they are basically trying to rip people off by pointing people towards their PSU calculator... They say that a GTX280 draws 700w?!?!

This is shady business practice IMO...

Anyway, I do feel less worried about 850w not being enough to power my rig...

I’m not convinced that the results are deliberate on their part – as some of those results are so outrageous that they’re actually damaging to BeQuiets reputation.

They’re a high end PSU manufacturer and, as such, know that ppl in the know will be buying their product. They would anticipate that these ppl would have a ball park idea of the wattage that they would need for their respective rigs. With this in mind, I would have thought that they would have geared their calculator around these facts. I would expect them to still be generous with there calculations but not to the extent of the comedy values that it's spilling out.

The above makes me inclined to believe that the coder, for the PSU Calculator, has unintentionally input the wrong set of values for x and y and thus you’re left with the equation:

Code:
[b]
 x + y = ß

Where ß = total b*ll*x[/b]

And even if it was intentional on their part – the above equation would still stand so relax and be confident in your purchase. ;)

You are quite right that these psu's will only fit in a couple of their cases and no others. Antec are trying to force a new psu form factor. Their calculator is pap as well.

Still an over kill tbh.

I've just installed a Q6600 (overclocked), HD4870, 4gb PC6400, 3 case fans, 2 HDD and 1 optical for a client. Using a watt meter, it doesn't much more than 400w on load. I could get away with a 500w PSU.
