PSU Squealing?

Hey

I own an Ultima Dreadnought and just recently i was playing Medal of Honor and the PSU just started making some horrible squealing noise, it sounds like it's coming from the PSU, any advice?

Try forcing VSync ON in the graphic card driver? see if the squealing goes away.

My GFX card squeals like a pig on certain games / loading screens. Its not crazy loud but if ya listen out its clear. its weird. Through 3dmark it changes pitch depending on what its testing

Was the same when I first got mine, went away after a few days of decent use.

If it's horribly loud though, might wanna get it checked.

Iv'e had this PC since christmas though and it's been fine after the last RMA but now it's just doing an annoying noise lol

Usually it's just the capacitor(s) in the PSU. The whine is quite normal. But if it is actually disturbing you while you work, you're well within your rights to ask for a replacement.

i would've said its the coils buzzing in the psu not capacitors...

Call it what you want really. It is technically the coils vibrating, but there's plenty of names for it.

yeahh lol, its nothing too hard to fix if you know how to, many people use stuff like hot glue to stop them physically vibrating but heres stuff that is less of a risk than hot glue, forgot the name -.-

When you've paid that much for a system, I'd just RMA if it's annoying you. No point opening it to modify when it'll just void the warranty.

The weirdest thing is.... when i play a game the noise stops... why would coils stop vibrating when im playing a game?

I reckon its the GTX480 making the noise, I bet the sound is more prominent during loading screens and game intros?

they wont stop vibrating, they will just vibrate in a different frequency.
