I've (hopefully) got a 5080 coming tomorrow but in all the choas I kinda forgot I only have a 650W PSU. Can anyone recommend a good new PSU (I think 850W will be enough) without going mad as I'm going to get murdered for spending so much money as it is.
I have a a 3900X cpu (going to grab a 5700X3D once I sell my old GPU) on a X570 mobo, a few fans and a couple of NVME's (no HDD's as they are all in my NAS).

At 850W this is your best cheap option, Phanteks are generally reputable, but I don't know about this model. It's ATX 3.0 and PCI 5.1 standard so I'd think it's fairly new. Someone else might be along to advise you mroe about this particular PSU. But i'd guess it'll be fine.

What model is your 650? If it is a good one you'd likely get away with it, especially if you tweak the power usage.

Asus TUF Gold has been on offer a lot lately. At the higher end, maybe Antec's HCG Pro which is derived from a Seaonic Vertex.

It's a Seasonic core gold 650W psu

Power spikes need be taken into consideration as they are usually much higher so therefore the PSU needs headroom to allow for this otherwise it will trip.

The 5080 FE has power spikes of 417 watts which is nearly 100w more than the consumption, you could try your PSU but any problems your PSU is likely to be the problem.

Thanks. I think I'm going to have to bite the bullet and get a new one. It's not worth taking the risk of damaging something.

Yep decided to just spend the money and get a decent Corsair 850W PSU and not risk damaging my new £1.2k 5080 by cheaping out on a power supply.
It's coming today so after work I'll be installing that and my new GPU

Some of us have moved over to the newer Antec HCG Power Supplies and they seem great. So because of that I'd personally be suggesting this one. Meets all the latest standards, platinum efficiency, and should work well with your 5080.

No worries. Will keep that in mind if I have any issues. I think my head just goes for Corsair (and sometimes Seasonic) when it comes to PSU's and I don't look into much else as they've always been reliable for me.
Both good brands. If it helps I believe the Antec PSU's are a re-branded Seasonic. :)

Seeing as you mentioned Antec, in the off chance I get a 5090, would this be a good upgrade from my Corsair RM850x (bought in 2020):
