Hi,

I was hearing a slight whistling noise coming from my PC the last couple of days. I decided to open it today and check the fans but it's not coming from them.

I have a feeling that it is my PSU making the whistling noise.

Is there anyway to fix this?

Thanks

I had a gfx card that did this many years ago.

If the system is pretty new it's most likely coil whine from the PSU, GPU or Motherboard. Also does it only do it when under high load or under high FPS on a game screen ?

Also to note electrolytic capacitors when they leak can whistle, but that either comes with aging capacitors or faulty capacitors. So maybe look at the electrolytic capacitors on the PSU, GPU and Motherboard and look for signs of bulging or leaking.

I get coil whine form my HX1050 PSU and its done it since day one. It only does it under load though and if gaming for a while will eventually shut up. I should have RMA'd the PSU years ago but hey that would have interfered with my gaming time.

Whistling is a leaking CAP, may be swollen and crusty on top where weak spot is (so they burst there instead of blowing all over the place).

The Green Polo Mints with the copper wrapped around then are COILS (moden ones can be instead a little black housing but still the same), they make a rattling/buzzing sound that can get more freq
