Firstly, been reading here for a while and never posted. everything here, (well mostly ;-) ) is very helpful.

Secondly - sorry if there is a specific PSU thread, couldn't find one.

Advice sought: building a computer in Q1/Q2 of this year and have most of the research and knowledge that I want from reading all your posts and reading up on the sites that are posted here.

My main point of wavering on is the power of the PSU. Trying to build a PC that is a couple of years future proof. (Present one has done 3-4 years and was cobbled together from mates left overs as they upgraded)

What wattage of PSU do I need? Will be running Sandybridge with a mild overclock (4.1Ghz-4.5Ghz) and H70 corsair cooler. 8 GB Ram on 2 sticks. (Running Photoshop), 570/580 Nvidea card with the future option of SLi'ing a 2nd. 1 SSD HD and one normal HD.

Was thinking of the 1000W ATX from Corsair, but might be overkill although it would last the length of time.

Requirements: long life, good power, able to take future kit and last 3-5 years if poss, and modular. thoughts?

Thanks and nice forums here.

Hello & Welcome to the Forum.

A 750 to 850w would be fine for dual 580's and SB setup.

Antec, XFX & Corsair are good brands.

Hi there, a 1000w Corsair is killer psu, will last years, and will power anything you can almost chuck at it.

Its a great psu with reviews to match.

This is the HX1000 version

Either as King Damager says, the Corsair HX 850W, or even the 750W would be reasonable if looking for something a bit cheaper... I have the Corsair HX 750W and it's a nice bit of kit. Can't say that I'm a great fan of the flat cables. But a couple of reputable reviews that I read, said it could easily have been badged as a 900W PSU (and the 850, as a 1000W)! And one BIG plus point, no coil whine at all. And coming from a noisy (top end) Tagan, this is a great relief. Corsair support and RMA also top notch.

PS. Other than your "possible" going SLI, I don't think the power draw of your suggested system should be that great. And lets be honest, how many people "think" about the option of going SLI at a later date and actually end up buying a single better card in the end!

many thanks all. 850 seems the best at the moment (unless extra money falls in my lap and then... why not. ;-) )

Corsair seem to have a great rep at the mo with long guarantee's and good service.

Thanks for all help.
