So, in an interview, Tim Schafer revealed that:

Psychonauts 2 has been pitched to publishers "several times", TIm Schafer has revealed.

The founder of Double Fine studios said that he receives daily requests for the sequel, but fans often do not understand how game publishing works.

"I mean I get a lot of, on Twitter or whatever, daily questions about Psychonauts 2. And I would love to do Psychonauts 2, I've actually pitched that to publishers several times and no-one has taken the bait so far," he told Digital Spy.

Which then lead to this:

Mojang can certainly afford to fund Psychonauts, so this would be extremely awesome if it did come about!

I'd also love to see PC versions of the rest of their console exclusives (ignoring stuff like the sesame street game :o).

They've got a lot of money, but surely not so much that they can start publishing completely third party games as well.

I think it would be a massive leap for them as well, I can imagine if they were to do it, it would end up being DD only.

Honestly I am not sure that Notch cares about it.

It is excellent publicity for them at the least and at best they make a huge profit

A followup to Psychonauts would be very very welcome indeed!

Would dearly love to see Grim Fandango released to be compatible with W7 etc though, really don't want to have to pirate it :(

If you look at the expense which goes into a physical release and the little profit per unit made, would DD only makes sense.

Don't get me wrong. I think Steam and DD are the future.

If they targeted no physical release, that would mean XBLA (no chance of PC exlcusive), which has limitations on size of game.

A Psyconauts sequel should be huge and expansive, and while I loved Costume Quest, it wasn't very long. :o

I guess I'm just being pecimistic about the game being cut down because of publishing choices. :( I should really wait for it to be announced before thinking of all these stupid "what if" ideas. :p

It's easy to get working on win 7 with the mix n mojo custom launcher. :)

Double Fine studios always produce unique and interesting titles, sadly this doesn't always translate into solid high number sales...

Brutal Legend whilst very interesting, failed but I did in a way enjoy the game... Psychonauts however was a great game just can't see Double Fine making a sequel... If they do, be interesting as to date has a Double Fine game actually sold well?

Far as I know, they do ok, but nothing special.... Which is a shame, as like I say, interesting studio.

I purchased Psychonauts a few years ago on a Steam Sale, and having played for about 2-3 hours, I stopped. Although I could appreciate the quirky humour, original setting, and very unique level-design, a number of things stopped me from carrying on:

1. Poor controller support. The remapping of buttons for a 360 controller is so cumbersome, and with no built-in support for the controls to show in-game, constantly forgetting what does what. Could go with mouse/keyboard, but this is a platformer ffs!

2. Grinding. One of the most annoying things for me given time-constraints in gaming is this necessity of placing a million hidden items around the environment and then having to spend ages collecting each one. I realise this is slightly hypocritical given that in BF3 I am sometimes content to sit around in one place for ages in order to take an objective. But at least I know that is a MP game where my squad and team need me to PTFO!

3. Compulsion. The narrative didn't make me feel like carrying on. 2 hours in, the accents were starting to grate, and I was grinding my teeth in annoyance.

May give it another go someday, but I decided to shelve it in favour of more rewarding pursuits (ironically, playing Mass Effect at the moment and that has been sidelined for the grinding feel of it).

To be fair, the game was released BEFORE the Xbox 360 was and also in a time when gamepad support was not a common "want" among PC gamers, it was in a time when keyboard/mouse support was all that was expected.

I was thinking this. Seems a bit unfair to mark it down at least. I mean, would you mark Baldurs Gate down for not supporting Kinect for PC? :p

Yes fair points - I guess I am acting like a spoilt recent gamer man-child, but if Double Fine wanted to extend the appeal of the original, surely patching in proper 360 controller support would not have been too much of an ask?
