I'm aware you can get actual fan filters but I want some to attach over the side vents on my Lian Li S80.

Could anyone suggest where I might be able to buy a smallish piece of this stuff? Preferably somewhere on the high street or from a non-competitor type shop online. I can get it from a US site at $5 per sq ft but it'd be a while to wait for it.

Ive heard that tights do a good job at stopping dust. The foam you'd need for a dust filter has to be very low density, furniture foam wouldn't let air pass through it.

beh; this is what im doing.

Around the mesh on the side of the case there is a fair bit of room, get some tights and using masking tape pull them slightly tight over the mesh, and insulation tape them down.

You have the perfect dimention fan filter there. :)

You could also fit the filters at the front of the case, on the fan intake vents bit.

I going to try this, im not sure how much dust the front fans will pull into the case though, they dont seem to pull that much noticeable air in through the vents, but it could just be the size of the space / cfm ratio.

I don't know how well the second one will work, but I will give it a go.

Ill get back when I have found what I think is the best, but it all takes time so may be about a month before I do. :)

Heh, tights not being the easiest of stuff to work with but will certainly do as a temporary measure. Went and ordered a couple things of the "Filter Material" from www.purapc.com (doesn't appear to conflict with anything sold by OcUK but remove the link if you think otherwise). Don't expect I'll get them anytime soon though.

I can definitely feel a slight draft from the side vents, which are the only intakes I have setup, and there seems to be sufficient air flowing out of the case with all the rear fans as outtakes. Unfortunately not much chance to test as I'm waiting for an RMA replacement, was only able to fire it up for about an hour using some borrowed memory.

Yeh, it is not wizzing by though. :p

Does not seem to be any noise difference between 5v and 7v fans aswell.

That stuff looks a little gimmicky to me, tights are the best solution I think, used them for years and never let me down.

Sorry i was too slow on this one and you've ordered already - i take it this is the stuff you mean:

Tights always sound a bit to ghetto for me lol

Ye, do you know somewhere more convenient to source it from?

I bet hoover filter material would do a good job. I'm not sure where you get it from but when i was at school they had loads of it and cut it up for abrasive cloths to scrub the desks down at the end of the year. I bet there are loads of things you could use and you would pay a lot less than buying a specialist product that does exactly the same thing. Id check ebay, they seem to sell anything and everything.

As Yewen has said, please be careful about links to Ebay. That one i would say is ok, but anything which puts them in a competitor light would not be allowed. Just wanted to clarify the rule about that for those who have asked

No trouble with your post, we were just nipping it in the bud before it went any further with other people potentially posting stuff.

Just a precaution. :)
