I need to take some photos in a pub, So quite lo light, but not as bad as a gig/club. i'm guessing a high iso and longish shutter speed? I#ll be drinking so not sure how long I can hold a camera without shaking.

i have a s5600 if it matters.

It means that I can't recommend the Canon 85mm f1.2

Taken at 9:45pm inside an unlit marqee in July. The main source of illumination was flashing LEDs in the bottom of the pint glass.

1/30 second
ISO 3200
f1.2

Of course, it's pretty grainy at full resolution...

Are you intending to take pictures of a band at the pub or just general shots of your mates etc?

The S5600 is 38mm at its widest, so you want a shutter speed of 1/40th of a second or faster - the nearest setting is probably 1/50th.

Test out the camera in low light, and find what the highest workable ISO setting is. I see from the specification, the camera goes up to 1600. But with it being a bridge camera, the pictures may be too noisy at that ISO setting, depending what you plan on doing with the pictures.

Anything over ISO400 will probably be very grainy, I would improvise and maybe use the table to prop the camera, with maybe a few beer mats under it for positioning, you could always increase the brightness in post-processing.

800 ISO isn't that grainy, obviously not ideal - is the s5600 a point and shoot camera or an SLR? I'd just keep the ISO low and use a wide appature (1.4/2.8) or bounce flash of the ceiling.

the s5600 is a bridge camera, mini dslr body. i wouldnt fancy taking one with me on a night out"!

It's more a compact with a larger lens and more settings. It lacks the key mechanics of a SLR such as interchanable lenses, the reflex mirror and the pentaprism.

i know.. i had one before i got my nikon d50.

its why i said Bridge camera, but there are bridge cameras that look like beefed up compacts and some that look like mini DSLRs, like the s5600. I stated the body style to indicate it's not something that'd fit in your pocket in a pub!
