Just watched this tonight, I was really impressed with it and another thumbs up for Michael Mann.

Much like Miami Vice, the sound effects and gun shots seem realistic compared to other movies.

Anyone else seen it yet, thoughts?

Neil.

Miami Vice got slated but I loved it, also Heat is one of my favorite movies. Plus i'm a christian bale nuthugger so eagerly awaiting this ;)

SAw it tonight. I had high expectations but it didn't really do it for me. There was one part that baffled me.
I think Mr Depp is a great actor and his films are normally a stamp of aproval but I couldn't get into this one. Also the speech was really low in the cinema and the constant zoomed in effect really did my eyes in (and we were sat on the back row!)

loads of great films to come out over the summer though GI Joe, Pelham and that new Di Caprio one looks pretty interesting.

Just got back from watching Public Enemies, and I did enjoy it. It was definitely a different cinema experience from my usual diet of Taken, Bourne and Transformers and as such, this was quite a bit of work at some points. But that being said, I did enjoy it immensely. Johnny Depp and Christian Bale were both excellent and the film felt very together. I may try and watch it again, to try and make up my mind on whether I really liked it or not.

Just got back from watching it and feel that it was very flat and just didn't really go anywhere. Heat is one of my favourite films and I keep thinking Mr Mann will pull of another film like it and this didn't even come close. I even enjoyed Miami Vice more than this.

Saw this last night, was a good film if a touch long. I've liked a lot of mann films, heat probably being my favourite. For those that have seen heat, its basically a 1930's version, but better.

Well saw this last night and like amny others I am a hue fan of HEAT but this was no where near the same standard. I went expecting a gripping 30's gangster action film going by the trailers and was kinda disapointed to be honest. Felt it was to slow and to long and what was the bit when Depp walks into the police office all about?

Sure the gun sound effects were good but on the whole i thought it was very poor. Found my mind to be wandering at certain times and there just wasnt enough to keep me entertained. I did however think Mr Depp played his character very well, but the film was such a disappointment. :(

That scene was based on fact I do believe. In fact, that scene was the best in the film imo!

I thought the film was a terrible waste, the story, the sets, the cars, the clothes, the music, all great. So to were some of the acting parts. But for me the biggest problem was the way they shot the film, it just looked and sounded plain terrible, what the hell were they thinking?

In parts it looked like a home made movie, they should never have shot it in such a manner. For me that killed it, gave it no sense of atmosphere or drama and left it all a bit flat. I was hoping it would have looked like road to perdition, that would have been a winner.

:(

The film was wasted, tried to be a lot of things, a combination of poor dialogue, a complete lack of tension in and between major scenes, coupled with that odd shaky cam switch in the woods shootout.

It just had no or little character for me. The leads, depp/bale are far better than this showing, any half decent actor could have done the job given the leashes they seemed to be on, you'd expect either to give a standout performance to carry the film, no character in the film does that.

Plus side as pointed out by rare, the flick just creams with fantastic style, the sets/music are spot on.

It's a 3 from 5 for me, no classic (goodfellas, untouchables ect) middle of the road film version of dillinger (1991) is better imo.
