Had a public sector IT interview and I didn’t get the job, but i did get feedback and I’m baffled, IT diretor phoned “ you were far the best/ most experience , qualified candidate but your response to the question of Equality Opportunity wasn’t as good as the other candidate”

If you are the best person for a public sector job you are never going to get the position, they will be too worried that you will show the current staff up :p

What was your response to the question of equal oppertunity?
My response "Treat everyone equal, analyze and prioritize workload according to importance."

Guy wanted me to answer it like this "a disabled class would take precedence over a non disabled class." that was what he said over the phone.

But isn’t that the opposite to equality?

Is that not discrimination? Take 'em to court.

You have no idea how true that is, at least in the department I use to work in and left because they were a bunch of complete muppets. All the seniors were appointed because they were friends with the team leaders or relatives, not on skill or knowledge..

Another reason i've found (esp in schools) is that they worry that you will find a better paid job outside the public sector and leave too soon.

Someone close to me used to work in the recruitment department and used to take the interviews. She used to find it quite frustrating because the targets they had to meet were so strict that a lot of the time they didn't end recruiting the guy that was best for the job but had to choose someone else because his/her disposition looked better in the public light. It's pathetic and resulted in a number of employees that are absolutely useless, if anything a hinderence to everyone else, but unsackable due to the policies in the office.

Your response would not have mattered. I take it you're not an ethnic minority, single mother, gay, disabled or any combination of the above? ( a black, gay single mother with one leg, and the job would have been yours!!!)

It's not racist, it's just Political Correctness Gone Wild (Like Girls Gone Wild, but with less boobies)

Chin up, there are better jobs than working for the public sector. I have a mandatory Sexual Harrasment brief next week........

Crash you talk some poo at times, in nearly all IT threads you are telling people to stay away from IT because its crap etc. And yet here you are applying for a job in IT.

I hate IT as well but it's what I'm good at so it'll do for now.

sr4470 is right.. you would not want to work for a moron like that! What must be going through his mind when he speaks?! To say you were the best at the job but didn't get it.. lmao

So they want a biased employee, rather than one who sees everyone as equal. Good for them, who are they so i can avoid them, since they obviously see disabled people as being socially higher than me?

In my opinion, if you have no passion for your work... you can't be that good at it.

It was for the LEA and was a part time job 5 mins from my home, it would have allowed me to do my masters and make a bit of money thats all.
What gambiit says i agree, you can be good at something but working conditions makes you dislike IT.

Your opinion is misguided. I'm good at it because I have high standards and like to do things properly, this applies to everything I do in life. I hate tiling my bathroom but I still want to do the best job possible because of the end result.
