Hi All

We've a Pug 206 GTi180 that is refusing to start. The engine turns over as normal but there doesn't seem to be a spark. The car was last used 4 days ago and drove absolutely fine with no hints of a problem, went to use it this morning and it's going nowhere. We tried jumping it thinking perhaps it was the battery being low but it's not made a difference. What is likely to be the problem please and is it likely to be an easy fix.

I'm clueless when it comes to mechanics but thought some of you knowledgeable folk may know.

Thanks

Start by checking if it has got spark at the plugs. If it isn't, then work your way back.

If it's got spark, make sure it is getting fuel.

If it's got spark and fuel check the compression.

Manual diagnostics is just about being methodical and logical. This may prove difficult, given that you are a bird :D

I seem to recall that your BF is a mechanic for a top BTCC team? Why on earth can he not resolve this issue? :p

He's not been here tonight. They are working late building cars. :p Plus all his tools are at work so we may struggle.

He's on his way home (in my car, I'm such a lovely gf) so have called the AA out as we didn't realise originally that we have homestart.

Thanks for all the replies, to Lopez for his sensible help and :p to all the female jokes. At least I've tried and not moaned about the possibilities of breaking nails etc. :D

I think the bigger question here is why do you allow your BF to drive a 206? This is simply unacceptable Minxy.

I know, sadly it's unavoidable at present. Obviously the next car will be a 1.0 Corsa in your honour Foxie.:p

TDC sensor failing doesn't give an error half the time on the Clio, wouldn't be surprised if its a similar system/story on the 206.

Tdc, crank, hall or whatever you want to call it sensor.

Renault referred to the part as a TDC sensor the other day and it's stuck wih me :)
