Pulled trigger on evga 1000w T2!

I finally decided to replace my nearly 5 yr old AX1200.
It was a close call between bequiet pro 11 850w and the evga Titanium.
Decided with the latter in the end.
I guess I didnt really need to upgrade but having upgraded my system recently I wanted a new PSU.
TBH the ax1200 was emitting slight coil whine and the fan was getting noisier.
My question is whether the evga is an improvement over the ax1200 or should I have bought the ax1500i ?

Is this for the pc in your oversize siggy with 970 sli? If so you are only pulling around 450w so you could easily have gone for a 650w psu and saved a big wedge of cash.

You need to fix your siggy as well before it get's removed. We are only allowed 4 lines of text.

Imo it is worth going overboard with the PSU as you can always upgrade to heavy consumption cards later on. IIRC his new PSU comes with a 10 year warranty.

agreed with you there, can never go wrong with a good PSU. yeah you pay an extra 50-60 pound but you've got head room and reliability from a good brand that should outlast your build, you'll go through multiple cpus, mobos and gpu's before you'll ever have to replace that PSU

Yes I couldnt agree more. A solid investment for multiple builds to come. Also the ripple is so low on this unit Im actually hearing better audio.

You guys do realise that cpu's and gpu's are getting more and more power efficient? He could have got the EVGA Supernova G2 750w and saved £110. It is still more than enough for his spec and would also have lasted through many boards, Same oem, same 10 year warranty too. If he wanted the efficiency then the EVGA Supernova P2 750w would have saved £100 and is still the same oem and 10 year warranty.

I prefer to pay the premium for the titanium rating which includes 94 percent efficiency at 10% load.
Pcs will still require 400 to 500w in a few yrs so running this at optimum efficiency whilst gaming makes sense (50% load).

You would have saved much more money by going for a cheaper unit than you will ever see in electricity savings.

As for power need's the only reason you draw around 450w at the wall is because you have a pair of cards. If you had a single 970 you would only be drawing around 250w at the wall. Even a system with a 980ti will only pull around 350-400w at the wall even when heavily overclocked. All this worrying about 50% load for max efficiency is nonsense these days because most psu's are pretty efficient all the way across their loadings.

It's your money so you can do what you like with it. You have a excellent psu but you paid way too much for one when you could have had one that was just as good for much less.

You do realize that GPU's will always use lots of power when you go for enthusiast models? When I upgrade this build (CPU/Mobo) I might end up wanting to go crossfire with the highest end AMD card out at the time which will require plenty of power. Managed to get my G2 1000w 2 years ago for under 120 GBP and it'll do for another 10 years! Also over clocking the CPU will require more.

My suggestion was based on what the op has now. Most reviews put sli GTX970 setups, even with overclocked X99 systems at around 450w total system power. Some are much less and a couple came in at 461w and 472w. I always factor in overclocking and take the worst case figures from reviews so I suggested 750w which would be more than enough for even GTX980ti sli unless it was a heavily overclocked classy or similar in which I would have suggested a bigger unit. Any new cards should be more efficient than the ones they replaced, just look at the 1070/1080.
