Pulling the trigger in next hour: 780 GTX - EVGA or ASUS?

As long as you have 2 8 pin pci-e cables, its ok.
Classy uses 8+8 instead of 8+6 like normal cards.
And you should be fine with a single card -I was runing gtx660ti sc slix2 on 750w psu, which can sort of translate to similar power usage as single oc'ed 780 classy.

Just throwing my experiences in as there seems to be a fair bit of elpida hate going on.

I have a reference 290x from the release. Memory is elpida but happily can go from a stock of 1250 to 1575, which is pretty impressive as far as any 290x memory goes.

So whatever card you go for, even if you are unlucky and get elpida, dont judge it till you mplay with clocks, as i have had cards with Elpida, Hynix and Samsung. Often the Samsung reliably clock higher but tbh with the handful of each of the other two, they seem about the same to me memory clocking wise. Still if i was buying now i would go Sammy first, Hynix second and Elpida last just for peace of mind.

No issues at all, been a superb card. Core goes a lot higher than i thought it would be willing to go.

TBH, you will be fine with either the 780 and the 290.

We may see forum posts on issues but they are rare. I am sure we saw some RMA figures from both GPU teams in december/early jan but i cant find them on the forum search.

The other 780's work on your board?

I'm now leaning towards EVGA. I probably would feel really bad if I ignored all the warnings on ASUS (although that card would look sweet in my rig).

So: SC ACX or, for £20 more, Classified? What's the £20 gonna get me?
From what I read yesterday, the Classy has a newer version of acx. plus dual bios. that's why I ordered one yesterday.

The Classy isn't guaranteed to be any better but for £20 you might as well go for it.

Yeah the Classified has Samsung vram. I've heard of a few people who could barely up the memory clock, though.
Mine hit 1700Mhz which is decent I think.

Which Bios do you use? Do you know if the classy has sammy ram. Do you over clock your card?

I am on the second bios but all it does is raise the power limit to 110%. Had a quick play with it when i got it and had the card running at 1275/1800 just by maxing the power slider. Not had a serious play with it because it boosts to 1150 straight out of the box. Asic is 87.3%.

I keep seeing this Asic is 87.3%. thing!! What is it? and where can I download it. BTW thanks:D

gpuz.. run it wil ltell u lots of interesting/uninteresting things about your GPU
Top left of the tab is a little green icon right click it and choose check Asic :)

The ASUS 780 and 780ti DC2 cards are actually both great cards. I would not dismiss the ASUS at all.

290 is by far the best value for money and I am not sure about all this black screen stuff. I have really not seen it on any of my cards unless pushing really hard.
