I have a custom watercooling loop installed in my computer with a laing DDC for the pump with a plexi top. I have found that the pump is making a very loud buzzing noise and has done for a while now. I have checked to see if it is a vibrational problem by putting foam under it as well as lifting the pump off the bottom of the case during operation with no change in noise level. The buzzing is the most audible part of the computer. I have feser one cooling fluid in the system and my case is a Silverstone TJ-07BW. The pump is on the lower section of the case beside the radiator, immobilised but not screwed down. The loop consists of a D-Tek fuzion block for the CPU, an EK full cover block for the graphics card, a single bay reservoir and a 120.3 rad. I am unsure what information is useful and what is not so I thought i'd provide everything :s

Is this a precursor to a pump failure or merely the normal operation of the pump?

They all hum to some degree but loud buzzing is not good.

Check the 4 screws holding the top on make sure they are not loose but don't over tighten them.

Make sure the system is not full of air bubbles as this can cause pump noise.

End of the day, if you are worried about it, replace it.

Thanks for the help ^_^. There are no air bubbles visible at all in the system and would over-tightening lead to this hum? To be honest it's not really worth my while just changing the pump as the rig is ageing a bit and i can conceivable see myself upgrading/updating it within the next 2 years.

I got it in August 2007 but I don't have any of the documentation as far as I know, as a friend bought it for me. Would it still be possible to send it off?

If you will be upgrading will you not be watercooling the upgrade? And if so you would only need to change the CPU & GPU blocks.
So, if you changed the pump now you would re-use it and the rad in your new build?!

Personally I have steered clear of full water cooling blocks as with the pace of grachics card progression and changing them it became to expensive. You could go the GPU only and ram heat sinks which would increase the longevity of the components, but thats just personal choice.

I have gone from dual core when i got into water (oh err!), the quad and will be using the same kit for a i5/7 upgrade when/if I think its worth it. My quad at 4Ghz seems preety good right now :)

PS
I burnt out about 3 DDC's as I clamped them down and over heated them. Got a D5 recently and must admit it is easy to use, speed controller is handy, and overall an ace pump!
