Pump stopped working?

Yep that is one poor solder job. Don't give up so soon though mate! If you have a read of my build log in my sig you will see the nightmare I had to start with and it might make you feel better (screwed my GPU, pump top and ended up having a leaky 2nd hand res). Seriously I was waiting for well over a month for new parts but it is well worth it in the end :)
 
That solder job is a disaster! The only 'dodgy' solder to mod the pump from 10w to 18w should be from the stripped wire to a spare connector. By the look of that photo all of the connectors are soldered!

The pump looks fubared imo.

It's not a hard mod but it appears the seller struggled with the mod which imo has killed your pump or at least contributed to it. Hope you get it sorted.

DDC's are prone to sticking though so take out the magnet (blue impellor) and give the holding a good wipe down along with the impellor. When you fasten it all back up don't overtighten the res top, as soon as you see the O-ring start to flatten that is tight enough. Your aim is to provide a watertight seal with the o-ring. Don't overcompensate this with overtightening the four screws! The magnet just pops out...

Some people do complain that the xspc 750 is noisy and can resonate through the case. Personally i'd stick to d5's or ddc's.

Laing pumps are expensive though the pump and res would've cost me £85 new and I'm only 15 its hard to get money are those phobya Pumps any good?

i have a xspc 750 and it isnt noisy at all (i must be a lucky one ;) )

I would however say the res gets a little warm with the Pump inside it as the water volume is not that big and i am even thinking of getting a seperate pump and res just for this problem alone And also i have read on the reviews on OCuk xspc res/rad item page that some of the pumps in these have died 6 months later so i am also waiting and watching mine all the time for failures. However it has been fine so far BAR THE HEAT

Mate, I am 16 and was in exactly the same situation as you. I originally planned to get the res pump combo but in the end I decided to get the laing pump because in the long term it would be a better option (i.e. not need upgrading for a while). I think if you are planning to stick to watercooling for future years I would save up for a bit and get the laing DDC. ;)
 
The DDC is more versatile (better mounting options) whereas the D5 is adjustable to suit noise/vibration vs power.

I personally prefer the DDC's as when mounted correctly they are silent (and look better). The D5's are excellent pumps too, either will serve you well. Don't cheap out on the pump though as it is false economy. Stick with DDC's or D5's.

Keep an eye on the MM if money is tight as pumps come up for sale all the time.
 
sorry to hijack the thread, but im also looking for a decent pump. Is the D5 worth the premium though? What i mean is will you notice lower temps due to better water flow with the D5? or is the difference between the two barely noticeable.
 
Flow makes next to no difference to temperatures for normal setups, which is one of the benefits of the D5 as you can turn it right down. But as w3bbo says, correctly mounting a DDC means that it will be silent essentially. The 10W version will be more than adequate for most loops as well, as going for the 18W version in a basic loop can actually give you a too high flow rate leading to excessive pump noise regardless of how you mount it.
 
I've asked for my money back from the guy who I bought the pump from so hopefully he will give me the money back and I can get a new pump and res once I get the money back into my account.
