Great buy for £1750. Can't be that many 1 owner 55k mile 172s left.
This was my thinking, I know the 172 cup was like only a one year run, they made only like 90 silver cars, of which around 70 are left, am not sure how many blue ones were sold in the UK but I think its 300-400 cars, I believe around half of those have either been scrapped, written off or turned into race / rally cars as that seems quite a common theme for 172 cups for them to be turned into racing cars, but as a base car it makes perfect sense due to the thinner glass, no abs, no AC, its more race car and obviously an 89kg lighter car to begin with.
Going over the car I am surprised to see so many items in the car that could be removed to further reduce weight, like under bonnet sound proofing, bulkhead sound proofing, boot lining, tool kit, would be very easy to get one down to around 950kg which when you consider its got a 2.0l up front knocking out around 160 horses that is rather impressive.
The more time I spend on it, restoring it, the more I want to keep it original, its such a great example and its even still got the original Renault anti-theft window stickers they used to put in cars in the olden days, haha.
