Hey guys,

Thinking to buy an SSD, but there are some questions which I need to be answered as I dont know much about these components at all.

Anyway I'm thinking to buy the OCZ Vertex 3 120GB SSD. I just need to know a few quick questions, do I have to make a fresh install of windows or do you just plug and play and update it?

I currently have the Samsung Spin-point F3 1TB HDD SATA-II.

This is mainly where I start getting confused, I do not have a clue what it means by IDE. AHCI, and raid stuff, as I will have a HDD and an SSD do I need to do anything in the BIOS for the SSD to function?

After reading some Info about SSD's It seems that the Crucial M4 seems to be better, does anyone recommend another SSD which is better than any of these?

Thank you for reading
Stefan

Are you using the SSD as a boot drive, or just a regular Drive. If its a boot drive Id recommend a fresh install. If not theres no reason atall why you'd need to reinstall windows.

Just disconnect your mechanical hdd connect ssd in first sata3 port enable ahci in BIOS and install win7,then connect old hdd and use for storage

Crucial M4 is the best to get at the moment. If you want to have windows on the SSD, unplug you HDD and plug in the SSD. Set the SATA mode to AHCI in the BIOS, install windows. Then when it's all finished, put your HDD back in :)

Thank you :). I will defo be getting one soon but atm it seems like SSD's are all having problems. I read that the Crucial M4 messes up after 5200hours.

This sounds proper simple, thanks again. Atm my HDD is set to IDE, cba reinstalliong again lol

Can do easy reg tweak for ahci mode without a re install just Google enabling ahci after win7 and follow the guide, works great done it many times

There is a firmware fix for the 5200 hours bug, it is again the best SSD available :)

OMG AMAZING! I've noticed a massive speed difference already, my comp boots up windows so much faster than IDE mode :O. Thank you so much for the info!
