If a reg number is already on a car, is there a way of requesting to purchase it?

I'm looking for a potential V6 M** plate if I get the car I'm thinking of

Speak to the owner of the plate, if it's a cherished one they can put it on retention for £105 and stick your details down as the nominee.

No? Why would there be - it's on somebodies car. Unless you know who the car belongs to, forget it.

Even if you did find the person who already bought it, chances are they'd demand a fortune for it.

Something starting V6 won't have just been issued routinely , someone has most likely specifically bought it for themselves.

Sadly thought that would be the case.

Just read on dvla site, they don't re-issue either so if car had been scrapped etc.

You could always stick a note under the windscreen wiper.
