Has anyone any experience of buying a website that makes profit? If so where from and roughly how much did you pay?

I have seen websites which list various websites for sale, they state how much money they generate per month, seems promising although I am very wary and am assuming they are all inflated figures.

you can get company accounts from companies house.

the price is often worked out through applying a multiplier to turnover / profit. depending on the business this multiplier can vary.

I used to buy/sell and create websites - Used to make quite a nice little profit for myself :) Unfortunatly, I quit due to time restrictions and the fact that the market was slightly flooded with ideas that were no longer unique :(

I would start off small and maybe buy a small site and see how you get on - Investing lots of money into a site with little to no experience would be stupid, and you wouldn't make the profits that they say they are currently earning.

I currently run online businesses and have looked in to buying a few additional websites but haven't done so yet. What kind of sites are you considering? And where are you looking?

Mainly http://www.youngentrepreneur.com/ and searching thier offerings on the forum. I'm looking for a site I can run without having to buy and hold stock. preferably an established site.

Ha ha, I was just trying to get an idea of what he was looking at.

My experience is in ecommerce with physical products so I can't really advise but there is a good forum you will probably find helpful here:

As said above Flippa is quite good and also check the ecommerce category of businessesforsale.com - http://www.businessesforsale.com/search/E-Commerce-Businesses-for-sale

Some of them are drop shipping businesses etc.
