Put a 1.4x TC on Sigma 120-300mm?

I hired a Canon 70-200 f2.8 II for 11 days earlier this month and it was £170 all in.

That would still be too expensive for me considering it's purchase price is only £1,320. It seems that it's just not feasible to offer lens rental at low enough prices, if it's equipment you anticipate needing on even only a few occasions it seems better to buy. Especially considering you can sell the lens for practically the same price you bought it at, whereas rental is money gone for good.

A 70-200mm F2.8L mk2 for that price? Haven't seen that price in a long time and even then it was grey market. It's all well and fine if you've got a few grand lying around that you can tie up in a lens for however long it takes to use and sell again ;)

All in all, the 70-200mm is still quite cheap compared to some of the other stuff you can rent! I wouldn't mind trying a 200-400mm F4L 1.4x extender and I don't have a spare £10k waiting around for lenses :( Also, I doubt I could offload it quickly after without losing a fair chunk of cash.

Also, when I've looked at prices, I found it seemed better value for money for the longer rentals (1 week+). The weekend ones seem quite expensive.

15% of the purchase price for 11 days... I'm with the other guy, I think that is bonkers.

With how they hold value, you would only lose that 15% having used it for 6 months.

Talking of the 70-200 vr ii... Tc20e iii (2x) arrived this morning and I'm rather happy with the quality of it on that lens. Can tell there is a little extra softness and a very slight increase in af time/jitter... But it is minor.

Very pleased with this combo for the odd time I will want 400mm, until I can afford a 300 2.8 :)

These newer tele extenders are much better than the old :)

Just to annoy you guys... The 70-200 vr2 can be had for 1899 chf new with 3 year warranty, which is approx £1300... Not much is cheaper in this country, but electronics are rather well priced.

The sigma 120-300 is about 2300chf

yep, no way i could justify that price!
would be better to apply for a 0% purchases CC and just put 5K on it
use it for a YEAR and possibly loose nothing!

That is the main thing, you can buy equipment and sell it after you are done for less money than renting!
