Hi,
I've been looking at upgrading for so long. Reading these forums is both a godsend and a nightmare. So many hardware options, so many complains about this that and the other. Tempted to pop to the shop tomorrow and get the following.

spec

I'm looking for stability rather than overall speed. Any other options I should consider. BTW I've got HDDs, Windows vista 64 bit and a good 600w PSU.

thanks

Richard

If you're planning on doing some moderate overclocking Ive heard that
the arctic freezer aint so great for dual cores.
For the sake of another 15 quid why not get a tuniq or a noctua?
Other than that looks grand to me, got a decent enough PSU to run it?

The PSU is really the backbone of a good system, eh? :)...
Or the motherboard...or the processor...or the memory....or the GFX....or the HD
Goddam it is complicated aint it mate.

I was thinking about the crucial ram, but thought eh ocz would be slightly better?

I did consider the TT120, and NH-U12F. I'm not planning on OC too much, maybe to 3ghz, since its going to be a 24/7 machine.

PSU wise I'm sure I'm gonna get a flood of "change that PSU" posts, but I've had no problems with them on 24/7 setups on 2 machines running for well over a year. Yup you guessed it. Its a hiper 580. I know of many running these with a GPX with no issues. I don't see the point in spending potentially another hundred on a PSU when I've had no issues.

thanks
Richard

The PSU is fine if your not overclocking but if you are i recommend a good quality solid Power supply. Theirs nothing wrong with Hipers if your going to be leaving everything at stock but as soon as you start overclocking, Hiper PSUs are not the best.

hmm gotta disagree with the last post, my hiper psu has always been great with overclocking and my pc is on 24/7, currently at 3.15ghz, i will go higher when i get a new cooler, Stick with the hiper mate :p it's never let me down either

mine blew up with no overclocking
my m8s blew up with overclocking

don't think it really matters, they just suck

but tbh this shouldn't turn into YET ANOTHER thread about whos hiper doesn't work and whos is going to die shortly (there is no working...its just a case of not dead YET)

To me that looks like a decent setup and the only thing I would alter there is the CPU cooler for something of better quality. Once you start hitting the £30 mark for CPU coolers you get much better performance I would personally suggest and recommend the Noctua NH-U12F. Read my review for further details and images. I have just fitted another Noctua on the other side of the heatsink, going to do some tests once my setup has panels on and have arranged the cables neater.

Can I ask what the bezel is for? :)

thanks mishima. The bezel is because I don't have a black dvd drive. Although it's not much more expensive to get a black 1. Didn't think i'd get 1 in the box. I love the look of the PC60 but I've read a few people on here changing them already.

I'll probably change the CPU heatsink, but I know with the choosen board there's not much room to spare with the stock nb cooler.

so many options my heads going to explode soon. :)

I know that paul_64l used to have a Noctua NC-U6 on his NB on that same motherboard, he has a Scythe Ninja though I think. Its quite tight but its possible.

Very nice spec there.

All of the points above are worth taking into account, I have a Arctic Cooling 7 Pro on a E4300 overclocked by 1.2GHz and it works fine. Gets to about 50 deg under load, which is pretty toasty but not dangerous. The Noctua is a very nice ( and large ) cooler, it does out perform a AC 7 Pro but its not vital, recommended though.

Again with the RAM, if your planning to do overclocking go for the Ballistix PC5300 http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-088-CR
It clocks monsterously and is perfect for overclocking.

Apart from that its a very nice system :-)
