Easy space calculation
128kbps = ~ 1 mb/min
192kbps = ~ 1.5 mb/min
256kbps = ~ 2 mb/min
320kbps = ~ 2.5 mb/min
So a 74min cd can take up ~185mb
Being honest - all my archived albums *over 1000 of them* are done with Exact Audio Copy and then encoded with Lame at 320kbps with a quality setting of 0 *as high as it goes* Also don't do the encoding on the fly.
Also change between using stereo and joint stereo depending on what I'm encoding.
Takes a while - but is well worth it. I've just started recoding them all again from CD for my MP3 player @ 32kbps-192kbps VBR mp3 - takes up less space and is acceptable to listen to.
With my many Audiobooks *Terry Pratchett mainly, but also Douglas Adams amongst others* - they're all done in 32kbps-128kbps VBR joint stereo as thats more than acceptable for someone talking.
