There's a few gaming memories that I hold dear in terms of experience, a couple of them are more to do with a great coindence of having that new album from a band while you've just purchased a new game to play.

Its not something I do much these days as I concentrate on sound (eg. CS:S, BC2) or following plots (eg. Mass Effect, Dragon Age)

So without further ado, here's a couple of soundtrack memories I had while playing games.

Game: Tomb Raider
Soundtrack: Radiohead - OK Computer
Absoultely fitting for this game especially in those really big caves on top of pyramids. Having Radiohead's sometimes haunting vocals and music made Tomb Raider an absolutely joy.

Game: Streets Of Rage 2
Soundtrack: Iron Maiden - Fear Of The Dark
When you're a young kid beating baddies up in subways and sewers, having Fear Of The Dark playing was just icing on the cake. Yeah I know its a console game but there's no general gaming forum ;)

I found the music in the Unreal Tournament series to be so good I didnt need to add my own.

Sorry if this doesnt add to the thread much, but I couldnt associate the UT games with other music.

I used to do this...

Quake - White zombie

turok - Prodigy

Doom - Pantera

Gran Tourismo - Mix of tunes, like manic's or stereophonics etc..

Playing games to your fav music would be a great way to enhance the gaming pleasure.

Haven't done this for years though... To be honest, games have now moved into a more cinematic experience with seamless cut scenes and story lines that means the audio in the game is just as important as the game itself...

Game: Need for Speed: Underground 2
Soundtrack: Chemical Brothers - Push the button

Everytime I hear Hold Tight London from that album I always always think of driving round in my Mazda RX-8 in that game.

Not really on topic but, when the Nintendo 64 was released I was going to go and wait outsite Dixons at 4am ( I was 14 I think ), so to help me stay up til that time I played Doom with headphones on at the loudest volume, it sure did the trick :D

Game: Warcraft 3
Soundtrack: Korn, Take a Look in the Mirror

Went fantastically with the first and second campaigns, and it'll always be linked in my mind.

Game: WoW
Soundtrack: Lacuna Coil mix tape

Didn't play WoW for long, but seeing it nowadays always makes me nostalgic for the mix I had back then. Not nostalgic for the game, however.

Older games - Quake, Theme Hospital, Rollercoaster Tycoon, Hellbender, Freespace (the original, that is, the sequal to Descent), Commandos, Dungeon Keeper, Crusader: No Remorse/Regret etc etc etc
Soundtrack - Rush mix tape

A full 7 album selection on random mix. Rush was my go-to gaming music for years, and listening to an album now brings back games I thought I'd forgotten. I played games to Rush year after year, and it's for that reason that Rush is by far my most listened-to group of all time. I remember the first time I saw the Futurama episode where life is more like a computer game, and Tom Sawyer played to Fry taking out the Space Invaders. Damn near did a sex wee - I've never felt closer to a cartoon character in my life!

That epsiode of Chuck playing Missle Command to Tom Sawyer was genius .... now back to the topic :p

I remember having a LAN party and playing a lot of Flatout 2 whilst listening to Dream Theater's Train of Thought album, so now I always associate the two.

Final Fantasy VIII.
Korn - Freak On A Leash

I loved the music on UT2004, especially the music in Goliath, was it? Always have that tune in my head xD
