puzzling vsync issue

strangely, the other day i noticed a baffling vysync issue.

i had vsync in the nvidia control panel set to 'use 3d application setting'.

so, i assume, that means my nvidia card lets the game's vsync handle the load.

also, d3doverrider was turned off.

i had the game's vsync turned off, as i just d3doverrider to handle the load.

but there was still vsync in operation!

howcome?

the only thing i can think is that the in-game vsync is broken, and it is always set to be on, even when you clearly un-tick the box.

if the nvidia control panel is set to 'use the 3d application setting', then my nvidia card is letting either the in-game vsync do the job, or letting d3doverrider do it.

but if d3doverrider is turned off and the in-game vsync is turned off, how can the game still be running vsync?

baz

try turning vsync to the "off" setting in nvidia control panel -> reboot pc -> check vysnc is off in game + check you are not running any other frame limiting software.

some pc games are frame capped, especially if they are console ports, but i dont think that game has any hard caps in place (from a quick google search).

you might as well keep vsync on though, if frame rate is usually above what your monitor can display.

cheers for getting back.

it was stalker cop (steam).

Last time i played C.o.P (about 2 months ago) vysnc was broken and did NOT work, the only way i was able to get vsync to work was with D3D overrider. This is an old issue and is unlikely to ever get fixed. Without Vsync the game was a stuttering mess

selecting off doesn't enable d3doverrider to function.
i'm assuming off means 'force off'.

so if vsync in cop does not work, and d3doverrider is switched off ffrom the system tray, then there must be some other program causing the frame-limiting?

i've looked in 'applications', 'processes' & 'services' within the windows task manager, but am not sure what could be causing it.

it's winding me up, as i just want to control where and when i want to have vsync turned on or off :(

i'll try turning it off from the nvidia panel then rebooting (though i'm sure i've done that before).
i will install another game to see if i still have the same issues.

i just tried another game, and i turned:

in-game vsync (off)
d3doverrider (off)
nvidia control panel (use the 3d application setting)

no vsync! (as i would expect).

this is bizarre!
