Hi

noob question (6 yrs since my last build).

I'm guessing the the PWR FAN connects to the PSU 3 pin wire?

Cheers

The three/four pins labled PWR FAN are for connecting an auxillary fan for your system. DO NOT CONNECT THEM DIRECTLY TO YOUR POWER SUPPLY, IT MAY DAMAGE THE PSU OR MOTHERBOARD.

Just out of interest, what exactly do you mean by three pin power supply connector?

PK!

it's not for powering the fan i think the psu fan will spin wether the 3 pin connector is connected to the mobo or not, it's just for monitoring the psu fan i think. all the ones i've seen only have 2 wires coming for the 3 pin connector, a monitoring wire and a ground i'm guessing?

Sorry, I wasn't very explicit.

It a cable coming from an enermax PSU and has 3 pins. I assumes that you attached it to the MB for monitoring purposes?

Sorry - just seen in the manual (didn't see it at first) its a FAN RPM - for 8cm fan RPM detection - but where would this go? on the PWR?

is'nt the pwr_fan socket for the psu fan cable that some psu's come with for monitoring the psu fan?

YES, and since the Cable from the PSU has only 1 wire on it nothing can go wrong.

No PSU I have ever seen has a 3 wired version to power its fan from the Mobo.

If your PSU does not have the RPM Sensing Wire you can use the PWR header to power any other fans.

Same as you can plug any fan or Sense Wire into any Mobo header, just means if you use a program the Name Tags will be wrong.

Yup, thats ok to plug in there then. You'll be able to see the fan speed in the bios and other monitoring apps with it connected. I've never seen a power supply with that connection, so it confused me a bit. I thought you were going to plug it into a floppy power connector...

Every PSU I have had bar one (OCZ) had a PSU Sencing Wire (from 2001).

I think they dont want you to know thr PM as it was so loud and no way was Silent as claimed, also ramped up very fast with little heat (Temp Controled Fans) 2x80mm sucks.

My Enermax Infiniti 720watt is the best Ive owned and its got 1x 135mm fan, and as you see its sitting at about 1100rpm for now.
