Q&A SESSION WITH JAMES PRIOR FROM AMD / OcUK STREAMED TOMORROW, ASK QUESTIONS!

No, you don't want to use more power. You want more work done. You want the most work done for the least power. Power costs you money; work done increases your FPS. More work done is good, more power is bad.

If you could have a smooth 4k experience with a power-sipping card, or a smooth 4k experience that added £5,000 to your electricity bill each year, you would choose the former.

No, I want the most performance possible that can fit inside a case. The only metric that's important in terms of performance as a ratio is price. Power efficiency is pretty much irrelevant past can I cool and power the card.

I think I get what jigger is trying to say but he's doing it really badly.

So badly I don't know what he is trying to say for sure, something along the lines that a more efficient architecture is better cause it'll be more powerful at a given power envelope (let's say 300W as that is around the max an off the shelf card draws)

But maybe he is not, maybe i am talking rubbish. My brain is mush from studying.

It's pretty simple. Performance comes at the cost of power. More power = more performance.

"it lead people to think for a long time the earth was totally flat and not curved."

Please don't tell me that supposed educated people believe this tripe of a myth !

Unless you are comparing two different architectures with different efficiency ratings. Which is what we were doing before you became obsessed with unlimited power...

Just pointing out the GTX970 gets slaughtered and questioning why anyone would care about the power use of a graphics card past can I cool, power and afford to buy it.

Seems esspecailly strange on this forum that anyone would put power use before performance and price.

Obsessed needs a special mention. I'm sensing a little Nvidia focus group in you.

Well unless we are talking kw cards, you would need a very well insulated house. Probably air tight too.

A family of four average size people would output more heat to the house than most cards.

Considering the power usage of Vega you would be wrong.

Most families tend to have 2 adults plus kids, the total energy (heat) output of them would be less than a Vega card but more than a Pascal Titan Xp lol.

About 109 watts per person. You missed the point.

My heating system is 35,000 watts. I'd need 119 Vega 64 cards or 140 titans to replace my boiler.

you dont use it at full power all the time though XD + this is just heating your house not replacing you whole hot water system as well. :P

You too missed the point. 350watt of heat isn't enough to heat the smallest of rooms. If it was 3 people would provide enough heat...

a mining rig can have 6-9 cards............... not 350w :p

9 cards would supply a decent amount of heat.

Would probably keep the chill off a hall, stairs and landing but you must have one hell of an electricity biill running 9 cards 24 hours a day. £1500 a quarter?

yes, but mining with them you can make way more to offset that :p anyway i think you are taking this way too seriously. its almost like i am on an merican forum where humor is banned and everyone takes everything literally

How much can you make? I might buy 35,000 watts worth of Vega 64 cards and rip out my boiler.
