So, here's where I am and what I want to do.

I currently have my entire iTunes library, including music, TV shows and movies on an external drive. This is due to internal SSD space limitations.

What I want to do, is move the library to the internal drive, but keep all the movies and TV shows on the external drive (iPhone apps need to be internal too). This way, I'll be able to sync the iPhone, download apps and podcasts without having to connect the drive.

So, how do I do this then ?

Cheers :)

copy everything you want to move (inc the itunes library etc) to the new drive then the other stuff you want to keep leave wherever or vice versa and then sadly your going to have to select the item or items and tell it the new location of the missing file :)

Move the undesired folders to a separate area of the external drive, like a folder called "Itunes Library extra" or whatever. Move the desired bit to the internal drive. Create aliases for the undesired bits and move them to the correct location in the new internal Itunes folder. Tell Itunes the location of the new library.

That way, Itunes will see just the one library. When the extra drive is connected, everything will be available. When it's not connected, just the desired bits will be available.

It'll be something like this:

Itunes--->Internal Itunes folder-Alias->External Itunes folder

Thanks for the reply. Just sat assimilating that little lot before giving it a shot. Think it makes sense !

you could move the library files then edit the library XML and do a find and replace in wordpad (or similar) for the new path. easy peasy.

Worked great, cheers.

Slight update to this. Works fine until I buy something. The new purchase then gets dumped in my internal library, and I have to manually move it over to the external drive. Any way around this ?
