Post your "experience" with Q-Tec here.

My dad had a 550w BIG FAN that exploded on him, it melted the end of the power lead in the back!

Oddly it seems they either live forever or destroy everything.

Mine didn't blow up, probably because I only had it in for about a week before I read the horror stories on here and put my case-supplied PSU back in (which, incidentally, had about the same ratings as the Q-Tec, despite only being 350W compared to 500W.)

The Q-Tec was sooo loud despite being advertised as 'quiet'. When I got my first decent PSU, I was amazed by how heavy it was compared to the Q-Tec.

All makes of PSU can die, though... I think the problem is not so much that Q-Tecs die more often, but rather that when they expire they tend to take out everything connected to them, where a good PSU won't! I'd never run a system with a cheapo PSU these days - easily worth spending the extra £50 for peace of mind.

Never actually had one myself but i do have a funny story to tell.

When my Hiper blew up (same quality as a Q-Tec) i needed a new psu quick so i went into one of the local pc shops to see what they had. Almost as soon as i entered the door i was "intercepted" by a sales assistant. Personally i hate this and would much rather be left to look around. If i need help i will ask but most of the time i know more than the assistants anyway. He asked if he could help me si i asked if they have any high quality psu's? He replied that they do indeed and that they were the best you can get. Here was me expecting something like Tagan, Antec etc. He led me to the back of the shop and picked up, yep you guessed it, a gopping gold 550w Q-Tec. He looked rather puzzled as i walked out the door laughing.

both fans failed in mine after a little while so had to replace them. Since putting it in the machine it made it quite unstable and then eventually it went pop - luckily it didn't kill everything!

I had a 500W Q-Tec running 24/7 for about 2 years, I changed it as I could not overclock at all and I was only running an Athlon 64 3800+ and 7600GT :S

Surely they shouldn't be able to sell PSU's which don't do the rated power?

I've tried running a few car bulbs from a Tagan, it was fine, very little voltage sag. Run the same load thru a Q-tec, sparks, smoke everything. Good job I was outside. :D
