Q6600 Advice

I am currently running my Q6600 at 3.6GHz (400 x 9) at 1.424v (CPU z during 2x orthos). So far it seems that its going to be stable here.

My previous stable clock was 425 x 8 at 3.4GHz.

How much harder is it for a system to be stable at 450 x 8 for 3.6Ghz given that its stable at 3.6GHz with the higher multi? My max temp on the two high cores is 70 and 65 at the other two.
 
yeah, i have underclocked my RAM to 1:1 settings and now runs at 800MHz 4-4-4-12.

Temps seem to have fallen now that i have the window open as well, max is 67 for the two high cores and 61 for the other two.

Is the voltage reasonable for 24/7 use? Its 1.475 in BIOS and 1.424 in CPU z.

ORTHOS still goes strong though :)
 
If you have good memory I would give it a go and try running it at 438-440x8 which will make run go at about 880mhz BUT try to run it on 4-4-4-12 timings, my memory can do that without probs so urs should as well.

Your volts are ok but the temps are already a bit high.

How were your temps at that 425x8 with ram 1:1?

My temps are really dependent on the room temperature though... I live on campus right now and the room can get pretty warm. As soon as i open the window temps drop by around 5 degrees to a maximum of 65 for the high cores.

The CPU is stable, i have also run blend to test for overall system stability and its working fine so i am pretty happy :)

I was thinking of trying to run at 450 x 8. As that gives me the same CPU clock which is stable now. What are reasonable volts to put through the FSB? I cant see the stock values on my Gigabyte mobo though, only how much to add is available. Any clues?

Obviously it depends on temps. Some people put massive amounts of volts through their chips but have the right kind of cooling to back it up. For me, 70 was my limit at 1.45 so i stopped at that.

Your system is very similar to mine, and I am running as per sig. With my memory I upped the memvolts by +.3v and NB and MCH are set at .15v each. To see your stock volts you will have to look at them in bios. :cool:

You say your CPU is stable but have you tested it with small ffts with P95 as oppose to blend :confused:

Yes, i have used small ffts for the CPU first to check the CPU stability and then used blend to verify that the system as a whole is stable as it tests some of the RAM as well. I also threw in some gaqming to actually use the thing under normal conditions. Not to mention that i was watching a movie while ORTHOS was working with minimal interference. Was kinda impressed by that ^_^

I will check my MCH and FSB voltages and try to up the voltages as you said and maybe try the 450 x 8. 1800 FSB sounds tasty.
 
I managed to run the system for six hours straight on ORTHOS at 450 x 8 so i am pretty sure that my CPU is now stable at that clock as is the FSB at 1800. RAM is running at 1:1 ratio for 900 MHz at 4-4-4-12.

Voltages for reference are
VCore 1.475 (BIOS), 1.44 (CPUz idle) and 1.42(CPUz Load)
FSB + 0.15v as the above poster had suggested.
MCH +0.075v
VDIMM +0.4v (rated voltage).

Should i try to run the RAM at 1080MHz 5-5-5-15? Or would using a divider put additional stress on the MCH? I was also unable to find the stock voltages on my motherboard. It only says normal under most headings and only specifies stock value for VCORE.
 
Judging by the advice I have been given in the past, I would up your MCH to .1v and slacken the timings to 5,5,5,15 and give it a go. If it fails increase your mch and FSB a small increment each time until your PC posts. There is a guy call "Cob" and he is really helpful and full of knowledge have a look at some of his posts.
