Q6600 B3 vs G0

I have a B3 running at 3.00Mhz with temps around 62 under prime using a Arctic Freezer Pro. One thing i did last week was to fit my heat sink the right way with the fan blowing across the headsink onto the back fan. This brought the temp down by 10 degrees.

So my G0 arrived and I fitted it in. Mind blowing.

Comparing both B3 and G0 at stock speeds, same application of Arctic Silver 5, same Arctic Freezer 7 Pro, same case, same OS, same Prime 95 test, the results are:-

- B3: 72 degrees for the highest core after 15 mins of prime
- G0: 51 degrees for the highest core after 15 mins of prime

That is an astonishing 21 degrees. Couple this with the G0's higher 'safe' temperature range, for a total outlay of £18 buying the G0 was a bargain!

Are you using the latest versions of your temperature monitoring software? Older versions reported about 15C less due to the misread Tjunction.

Excellent news! Glad to hear it worked out so well. Now get that thing clocked up! :D

EDIT: Out of interest, which version of Prime are you using and what test? They are nice temps, mine hits mid 50's at stock within a few mins (version 25.4 small FFT's). Although I did change to Ceramique. May go back to AS5 now that I see your results.

Prime Version 25.5. Using the large FFT length (not sure on this as I am currently running prime as I type, but basically the one that says it will produce the highest heat). Currently stability testing 3.1ghz, been priming for 45 mins and highest core is at 62 degrees, lowest at 55.

Sounds like it's going really, really well. But for a proper torture test, change to small FFT's, it REALLY heats things up. ;)

I went from a B3 to G0 and the temps dropped 5-8c roughly. I then moved the radiator fan from inside the case to outside which dropped the temps another 5c

Prime failed on one core, so upped vcore and have been Small FFT'ing for the last hour. 65-65-57-58 across the cores. If I can get stability at this clock and temp I'll be a happy guy. ;)

EDIT: Forgot to mention, this is with Arctic Freezer 7 Pro at 100% RPM, but my Antec P180B's 3 case fans are on their 'low' settings. Increasing them all to high drops the temps by about 3-4 degrees I think.

Nice one, but you clearly have a better tolerance of noise than I do. That ACF7Pro would drive me nuts at 100% fan speed!

Saying that, your temps look very good if that's still 3.1ghz. Excellent.

Time to reseat mine with AS5 I think.:p

It sounds like your B3 wasn't flat. You probably could have swapped it for another B3 and dropped 10deg.
That said, you have got a better chip now for not much more and should clock higher, so a pretty good deal.
Just have some fun clocking it now.
