Q6600 changing mobo and thermal paste

My Mobo has died and I am getting another, but i am planning on keeping my old q6600 and the stock heatsink. The chip/mobo are the only things i havent changed so far and I am a bit clueless. I looked at some videos and the stock heatsink comes (when new) with some paste already on it. When i move mine will i need to clean and replace the thermal paste? or is that a bad idea for a stock cooler.

and yes i am a dirty cpu noob who hangs around on an overclocking forum.

When you re-install the cpu and heatsink it will be wise to clean and use fresh thermal compound.

MX-2 or AS5.
 
Well im going to pick up my mobo in about an hour. Ill have a look for some arctic silver and isopropyl alcohol, thanks a lot guys.

Edit: got the thermal paste, but everyone in Korea seems to clean their cpus with tissue and nothing!

I will continue my search ...

MX-2 no curing needed OC straight away, As5 do's need curing up to 200HRs oldhat. Clean with a proper CPUcleaner make's a better job.
 
I used some rubbing alcohol and am now typing this on it. I was real careful in the cleaning, applying of paste and putting the cpu in the new mobo. woohoo! :D

Lol i dont think so ... Ive gone as far as id like into the world of cpu fitting just yet. When i get a new cpu and heatsink ill think about it ;)
