Q6600 -> E8500

Is this upgrade worth it? Looking at an upgrade for gaming.

Got the Q6600 running at 3.06 on air.

Whats the rest of your spec? What stepping is your Q6600? B3 or SLACR

Most people describe quads as more snappy in windows.

Abit IP35 Pro motherboard.
4 gig OCZ 8500 DDR2.
Ati 4870 512mb graphics.

You're not going to notice much of a difference unless you benchmark the games.

I'm surprised that the q6600 wont go higher than 3.06 as 3.6 seems more likely. RAM limited perhaps?

The e8500 is potentially much quicker, but I think we should determine why your q6600 wont go above 3ghz first, since the same limit may restrict the e8500

Yeah if its an issue with some other piece of hardware, you might get a similarly unimpressive result with the E8500...
