Q6600 end of life - is a 775 Xeon an option

Nah 45nm chips were no where near that bad - I managed around 45w idle with a Pentium E6500:

1366 chips/platform power consumption on the other hand (although at least they have IPC) :D

Like all architectures, the spread in cores/clocks/TDP (and idle/load power) is significant - I pulled power figures from two review sites in good standing to confirm and followed accepted rounding practices. 1366 chips power consumption just makes them impractical unless you are putting them in a DC and they fit the permitted power limits, other than that they are dinosaurs and should only be used if you hate whoever pays the power bill.
