Q6600 Ip35 pro O/C Help

Ok, thanks, so a lower multiplier and a higher FSB will get better speed, than a higher multipler and a lower FSB?

What is the lowest multiplier to use? Or is it all trial and error?

For 3.6ghz with an 8x multi you will need to do 450fsb. The performance gains are marginal and I only suggest doing this if you like benchmarks and stuff.

Not really up for benchmarking...

Is it better to have a lower multiplier and higher FSB? Or reverse? Or neglible?

'marginal' !
I dissagree, getting the highest fsb your mobo can do is very important as the speed increase is greater imho.

Do you have your radiator out the window or a waterchiller or something?

Nah, can't be assed worrying about condensation tbh.
The reason I have such low temps is because my bedroom is in a loft conversion and I have remotely located my computer 2meters behind a wall in the freezing cold un-converted part of the loft.
Total silent computing which is not easy to say when your running 15k u320 scsi drives and great temps to boot!! However I do have to take the rough with the smooth, come summer time and its hotter than hell up here :-(, however when its hot like this I’m normally either down the beech or park getting mashed with me mates :-)

A higher FSB will mean your 2 sets of cores can communicate with eachother faster, and the CPU can pull info from the RAM faster.

However, like I said before...the difference between say 333fsb and 400fsb is really insignificant unless you are benchmarking. In very intensive games maybe 1 fps max.

Thanks I see. I suppose after i am happy and stable with the o/c i want, i can then go on to the RAM, or is it not really worth doing the RAM?

Also, i note that on my screen prints above, the Bus speed and the DRAM frequency are the same. Is that because the divider is 1:1? So whatever i increase the FSB to, will increase the DRAMFrequency?

Yeah, getting the fastest speed the ram will run at with decent timings will give the system a good boost of performance.

Hi

I also have a Q6600 but I have the Abit IP35 board not the pro version.
Can I overclock my stystem using the above details for the pro version board?

I'm bit of a noob to overclocking so I wanted to check before I fry my bits!!

Cheers

Any ideas why cpuz says 3.6, but bios says its at 3.4? lol.

EDIT

Seems that cpuz hasnt taken into account that the multiplier is x9, i did change it to x8, but was well unstable at different FSB and increases in vcore.

Well restarted pc and cpuz and read the correct timings.

But @3.6ghz and 1.45vcore, temps whilst using prime95 we 69 68 69 70. They seem very high. Is this too high?

Also, the stress that prime 95 creates, what is this comparable to? Running a game, e.g COD4? Or is there no way any thing i should do in normal use would replicate the stress of prime95?

Sorry for all the questions lol.....

It's high but not too high and in general gaming isn't going to stress your cpu as much as Prime does because the load is also shared by the video card.

Personally I wouldn't worry about these temps unduly if your overclock is stable.

I have a run with prime again tonight and leave it on overnight to double test.

Can you just clear something up.

I am using prime95 version 25.5.

Do i need to run multiple instances of this, one for each core? or twice?

Also, i have read about changing the affinity and priority of this in the task manager. Is this also nesessary? Just want to be clear on this, as i have read in a few places about the newer version takes in to account of 4 cores so only need to run once??

Your temps clearly indicate that all 4 cores are being primed.
When you run prime you should have 4 windows within the main prime window.

Yeah have four worker threads, so each thread is for a core?

Lol, i have bee running it twice, lol, and setting affinitys and priorties in task manager
