Q6600 is being detected as a dual core cpu

yep q6600 doesnt, but for some reason when I turn off HT on my mobo 1 core goes off!
That's...strange, and maybe a bug in the P35 chipset.

I had a Gigabyte GA-EP45-DS3P (Bought from OCUK heh) and it hidden the option of HT on my Q9400 as it didn't support it. It may be a silly idea in theory, but if the setting for HT is available and set to on, it may be worth turning it off.

See post #2 here... http://www.overclock.net/intel-cpus/338907-q6600-cpuz-coretemp-both-show-only.html

I have the solution for your problem.

BIOS:
1. Make sure you have enable all 4 cores
2. Disable C1E and SpeedStep (so no CPU downgrade when idle)
3. Disable Limit CPUID Maxval (Set to disable for WINXP, don't know about VISTA)
4. Enable Execute Disable bit and Virtualization technolgoy
5. Enable APIC Mode, set version to 1.4

Reinstall Vista if possible. You should be able to see all 4 cores.
If reinstall vista is not an option, go to CONTROL PANEL -> SYSTEM -> DEVICE MANAGER -> Computer, then Scan for hardware change, and then update driver if available. The correct setting under Computer is: ACPI Multiprocessor PC

I just checked now, it is called CPU "multi threading" in bios in my mobo. If I set it to disable only 3 cores are working and visible in cpuz and task manager.
I will try to post some pics.

Try this...
- Open 'msconfig'
- Go to 'Boot' then 'Advanced Options'
- Then manually select '4 cores'

That helped me with the similar issue I had.

Sorry noticed you already tried that lol.

Reseat the cpu and check if there is any damaged pins, What is Max CPUID Value Limit set at?

Already done that, as stated in my original post or ealier in the thread.

Make sure you have the latest BIOS for that board and then set it to all defaults (factory settings), then try Intel® Processor Diagnostic Tool.

Already have the latest BIOS and reset to defaults, as stated in my original post.

Also can you test this CPU on another LGA775 system ?

Yes I have the latest BIOS and reset to defaults, as stated in the original post.

No I can't test in another motherboard, as stated earlier int he thread.

I appreciate people taking the time to post suggestions, but you could at least read what I have tried before posting.

Apart from removing the CMOS battery, which didn't work, I have tried everything else suggested so far.

Thanks anyway, looks like I have a half dead CPU.
