Q6600 new build - high temps?

So what I set the voltage too in the BIOS isn't necessarily set in stone? (voltages may go down as well as up, you may lose posession of your motherboard if you do not keep up your voltages.)

So I could, in theory, whack it straight up to 1.4ish and see what CoreTemp/CPU-Z tell me?

You can have a Badger if you tell me the answer to that. :D

More like, you may lose possession of your motherboard if you do not keep down your voltages :D

Yes you could, though I'm not sure why you'd want to. 1.4V isn't going to damage your CPU, but there's not much point upping the voltage unless your system's unstable on overclocking. And you seem to have a processor with a low VID, according to your screenies - that's good, because lower volts => lower temps => higher stable overclocks.

Have a badger for that one.

Sounds good to me, so I should just keep pushing it higher on the bus speed then, and take it up by wee fractions of volts at a time if needs be?

What I wouldn't give for a multiplier above 9 though. Damn mobo!

10 hours of Prime and I didn't get over 51c on any core. More power! he he he.

Edit: @yazz - I also have a Touch HD. What a phone, eh? :D

Indeed, the resolution's still the best going, it makes web browsing almost a pleasure on a phone! I found the battery life a bit short though (as it is on most if not all smartphones) so swapped out the battery for one twice the capacity. Makes the phone a bit bigger but it's worth it - the only way I'll use up the battery in a single day now is if I'm driving several hundred miles and decide to use the Sat Nav Google Maps for the whole way without plugging it in :)

My P45-DS3P is waiting at home with my Q6600. I needed a molex > 8 pin for the motherboard. was not stable at 3ghz on my XFX 650i board, lets see what this gigabyte can do....

GA-965P-DS3.

Solid as a rock at 3.63 now! I'm genuinely amazed. What a processor!

You've got a good low vid chip there, my G0 Q6600 has a vid of 1.312 and I have to give it 1.4 volts to get 3.5Ghz out of it. Not complaining though, that's still a good 45% overclock. I can get into windows at 3.6, but Prime 95 dies on core 0 after a few seconds even at 1.42 volts, it's probably capable of being stable, but I don't see the need for more so I've backed down the vcore a bit.

I'm going to pop my stray 1gb out some time this weekend and try upping my FSB, as the RAM is killing my overclock if I go >404. If the Corsair XMS2 800s I've got in there will let me go higher, I'll get a 2gb pair of them and see how high I can go. Might attempt 4GHz on air.

Suffice to say I love my Q6600. Let us know what you get out of yours!

4ghz on air is a very, very high overclock for an air cooled Q6600. I topped out at 3.8 with reasonable temperatures but to get more stable than that I needed to pile so much more voltage into my CPU and Northbridge (8gb of ram doesn't help there) that temperatures began getting silly very quickly.

Still, I wish you luck!

Theres soooooooo many options on the P45. I had it at 333x9 (3ghz) yesterday but im sure theres something wrong with either some voltage settings or a power issue in my case with something. Theres a memory settings that im sure i need to get correct to be able to go past 3ghz with my OCZ

Now my PC starts up but powers down after a few seconds - see this thread http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18113325

Aye, I know it's a bit much, but I've POSTed once at bang on 4 and got Windows to at least attempt a boot at 3.9-something. I reckon it's do-able, but what my temps'll be like is another matter altogether.

If I get it that high I'll probably just stability-test to prove that it can, then knock it back down!
