Looking or some advice about power supplies and if i'm exceeding mine.

My Q6600 @ 3.0Ghz (333x9 default 1.225v) runs fine unless being pushed hard by Prime95. The wall power meter states i'm running about 170w at idle and 230w at load. I'm using an Antec 430w PSU and wondered if this is a factor.

Depends on you VID, mine (1.2625v) would only run up to 3Ghz at stock voltage, to get it to run at 3.2Ghz I had to up my vCore to 1.3v in the BIOS.

More details.. My VID is 1.225v and i've tried higher volts too.

I reseated the Zalman, slackened the ram, left the cover off, took out all unwanted cards and replaced the video card with a low power one.

My wall socket is now showing about 120w idle and 200w loaded. Prime ran for about 20 mins no problems. CoreTemp reported max 60c on 2x cores and 58c on the other 2. RealTemp reported about 4c less per core. Left it idling for 20 mins and the tried another crunching program. Machine rebooted about 10 mins later !!

I fancied a new PSU anyway so I bought a 630W Hiper (85%) efficiency. Running now PRIME95 so will see what occurs. Interestingly it's now using 200W at load instead of 230W via the Antec. Guess that showing better efficiency.
