Got a Q6600 and clocked it to 3.6

I have turned the C1E thingy off, but as I don't have my PC @ full load for most of the time, is it better to have it on to save power / heat?

it should drop the multi to 6 which will give me 2.4ghz instead, which will be lots cooler me thinks

Yes, I have mine turned on 24/7. It does help keep temps down, and does not hinder overclocking.

I was going to post a thread about this surely its better to have it on so it keeps the clock down rather than having it overclocked 24/7 anyone else got any inputs on this.

Yep it is indeed better, for the cooling etc. :)
Whether it really has any useful effect i don't know, can't imagine a CPU dieing after a year or so just because of overclocking.

Great minds think alike
Got a Q6600 at 3.2 Gig (400fsb x 8)

Enabled CIE last night and seems to work really well.
2.4 Gig on a 6x multi with instant 3.2 Gig performance if needed.

The volts drop to approx 1.1?? at idle and instantly raise to 1.265 (ish) under load.

Temps at idle are averaging 35Degs over 4 cores and about 55Degs under 100% load using Prime95.

Mobo temp approx 26Degs idle & 45-50Degs load.

Using a Akasa 965 cooler which is proving to be very efficient and the fan is running 100% constant at approx 2600rpm.

Suffice to say, very happy and what a chip!!!!!!!!:D

It's fine to do as long as the CPU's stable when C1E is on. It can happen that it's not because it'll be running at a higher clock speed with the standard reduced voltage.

I have my Q6600 clocked to 3Ghz with both C1E and speedstep enabled - passed 8 hours of Prime95 so im happy about its stability.

Temps Idle: 27, 28, 23, 24*C
Temps Load: 51, 51, 44, 46*C

In theory enabling C1E shouldnt effect your temps though should it as it doesn't adjust the voltage just the multiplier?

Ive just quickly tested my CPU at Idle and Load (using Prime95), finding that my CPU voltage is actually less under load due to the voltage droop.

Idle Vcore - 1.232
Load Vcore - 1.224

Draw what conclusions you will :D

Hi
If you can prime for 8 Hrs on those voltages, you have no problems:)

I am currently running at 3.2Gig and have also found no need to adjust Vcore settings from default 1.265 although as stated earlier, it does it automatically when CPU throttles (down to approx 1.1??)

With C1E enabled it will still be totally stable running flat out doing prime 95 etc. The only time I would disable C1E, is if the PC starts crashing when doing nothing, or at least very little work. Luckily its when the CPU is lightly loaded that its least likely to cause a crash anyways. But its not impossible. So if an overclocked system crashes while at the desktop, for no apparent reason, then turning off C1E may be the answer.

Otherwise leave it on, and enjoy a PC with lower fan speed/noise :)

Not sure why O-Jay isnt seeing a voltage drop. Perhaps his motherboard has bad vdroop, so when loaded its losing volts anyway.

On my BadAxe, my CPU sees 1.24V at full speed, and 1.00V when Speedstep kicks in.

Tend to run fan control disabled in Bios meaning fan is flat out all the time.

Not really a problem noise wise as the case fans on the Antec 182 make a bit of a racket anyway:p

Does help with core temps but the biggest difference I found was running the case fans at 100%.

This dropped cpu temps by a good 10degs or so.

Nail on the head :) I plan to do the "pencil mod" next time I gut my PC which should be relatively soon

Well, my Mobo, I foound, doesn't have C1E, it's called CIA2 I think

Also has several seeting, Cruise. Sport, Racing etc anyone had any experience with these settings?

Scrap that, that's a different setting, got the C1E setting turned on but no change in temps.

Anything that drops the Vcore while it's not need does anyone know?

Do you guys leave it to set optimized in the bios for the memory volts/fsb oveclock/cpu etc when i do this and leave it on auto it puts my cpu core @1.31 volts and even with speed step on and the cpu @ 2.4 from 3.2 oc it still stays on 1.33.

Hi
I'm running a Gigabyte DQ6 board and I have set all stepping settings to enabled . I run the Vcore setting on normal as I have upped the ram slightly which takes away the auto setting on this board.
I think that normal is 1.265V which appears to be the default chip setting.
When running Everest, you can def see the Volts alter when the CPU load changes.
I have a slight concern that this VCore change may, in the long term be more damaging than running at a constant voltage, but as yet, no apparent instability issues although I am slightly surprised to be running at a relatively low (1.265) voltage when most people on here have at least 1.3+ at 3.2Ghz.

But as stated, no CPU related issues or BSOD:)
