Q6600 reaching melting temps :D

lol you posted 5v twice! idiot!

Why rather than posting random figures about your rig, that to be honest are not that relevant, post something useful that could help the OP.
People that post things like you just did annoy the hell out of me (quite clearly). All your doing is saying "mine are fine so **** you" which isnt really constructive.

Funny calling someone and idiot when you yourself seem incapable of reading, or perhaps being unable to remember the forum rules. I recommend you remove your swearing from your post else you'll find a Don/Moderator is likely to issue a free holiday :)

I hardly think the error statix made warrants the outburst given that a motherboard/BIOS is severely unlikely to allow a value of 5v though the chip.

If the cooler was incapable of cooling a quad I would expect to see high temperatures across ALL cores, not just two. So this leaves us with one of the following a seating problem; incorrect application of paste; defective or severely uneven IHS

Are you putting the cooler on the correct way round? Can you describe the way your applying paste please?

p.s. Used to live in Larnaca as a kid 25 years ago... loved it (with British guys.) Some of the most memorable years of my life.

I would check that the AC7Pro is mounted correctly. They are *perfectly capable* of handling an overclocked G0 quad core up to 3.2Ghz comfortably. Heck, people even get 3GHz using the stock Intel cooler, and the AC7 Pro will be 10C core temp lower than the stock Intel !

I found the AC7Pro very difficult to fit. On the first board I used I squashed a couple of the plastic pins. On another board, I fitted it outside the case, made 100% sure that the pins were perfectly lined up, then pushed it into place, it clicked in perfectly, rotated the pins, and it's solidly in place. At 3 Ghz, 1.365v or thereabouts, core temps are just over 60C on Prime95. Fantastic performance, great cooler.

Ok, so a typo means I'm an idiot, yet I can point out plenty of grammatical and spelling mistakes in your posts? Now, I'm not normally a grammar troll, however, if you will pick at a typo, unprovoked, what do you expect?

As you so rightly pointed out, it was a typo. I intended 1.5v and 1.53v respectively.

My loaded temps are around 64c after 2.5hours of 100%, on all cores at 1.5v, and around 70c, under the same circumstances at 1.53v.

Those are some nice temp for an AC7

That's a nice clock you've got.

Mine's a brand new system, although, I believe I have a decent air-flow inside the case, I don't expect these temperatures to last. After a few months, and a bit of dust, they will rise, I'm sure.

When the time comes, I'll knock it down to 3.6 and 1.5v again, as well as a bit of a clean up.

Exactly.

Back to the original question, as stated previously, check your cooler is seated correctly, and the fan is facing the front of the case.

Also check your thermal paste is applied evenly, and not too thick. Did you clean the CPU and Cooler properly? Oily fingerprints can cause problems.

Running @ 3GHz at the moment but i dare increase the volts with these temps. It's a G0 and the room is air-conditioned during the late night hours. During the day the room temperature is somewhere near 30C :(
Idle temps at 3Ghz: 59C 59C 54C 50C
Load temps at 3GHz using Orthos -> 86C 86C 69C 63C
I am using a Tsunami Dream case which should have good airflow.
I am planning to get new parts during next summer since i got this parts a few months ago and i am very please with the performance so far.

the freezer 7 pro is good for the price, but not good enough for a quad imo
those temps dont look unlike some ive seen on mine in the past, ive got the thermalright 120 with 2 120mm stuck on it, and i'm happy with it, oced to 3.1 with 4gb ddr3
like you say youll need something with that room temp

I purchased the OEM processor. I apply the paste as shown in the Artic Cooling website. I put a small amount( as big as a rice ) in the middle of the CPU and then i just seat the heatsink on top. I aligned the fan of the CPU to push air directly at the outtake fan on the back of the case.

I know this is a bit of a mission.. can you take the HSF off carefully and photograph the pattern it leaves on the cpu please?

I get those kind of temps if I clock to 3GHz on 1.4V, normal idles are about 40 odd. Ran prime 95, load temps went up to 80+! Needless to say that the overclock came straight off!

I did think it may have been poor location of PC/airflow in the case, I'm not to sure now :(

Surely I should get better with the cooler I am using.

For me, 3Ghz at about 1.365v under Prime95 on a Freezer 7 Pro, coretemps about 62C. I was really pleasantly surprised by that. You'd be surprised how rapidly temps increase with more vcore, but yes I would have thought your temps would be far lower than that

if i am right in thinking the AC7 pro and the ocz vanquisher are the same things(looking at pictures of the AC7 pro) if so then you can get some decent clocks if ya lucky :)

I am using an MSI NEO-2 FI/FIR. The only positive thing is that i am able to get 3Ghz on stock volts. I have the CPU fan at 100% all the time :D

Yep, cooler isn't mounted properly. I had exactly the same thing when I installed my Q6600 with my Freezer 7 - two cores 15c hotter than the other two. Turned out one of the pins wasn't secured properly so the pressure on the chip was uneven. Reseated and all was fine.

Reseat the cooler, and make sure all the pins definitely click into place. The Freezer 7 can cope with a moderate OC on quads - mine runs at 3.1Ghz 1.3v and hits about 70c during Folding with the Freezer at about 1500rpm. For higher voltages, though, I'd suggest you need a better cooler.

Think im gonna change my freezer as well. @3ghz on stock voltage of 1.2750 my idle temps are 32, 30, 30, 26. @load in prime95 they reach 49, 49, 47, 46. Was a good cooler on my previous e6600. idles of 27-30 and never went over 60 at load.

I didn't think you were meant to turn the pins after pushing them down, only when you want to extract the cooler? (I think he mentioned it in his first post).
