hey all i have a q6600 at 3ghz at the moment but i was wondering how could i get it to 4 ghz? could my fsb take the strain? and what fsb speed would i use?
i would only do it for a short period of time (maybe 30 minutes) just to get a high 3dmark score then i would take it back to 3.2 or 3.6 for normal gaming

Every chip is different, tho i don't fancy your chances unless you're under water.

Its not really recommended to do this...

Anyway just increase the voltage enough and try it. If you dont have a good motherboard/memory they will most liekly fail to post. You will probably need to increase FSB/MCH voltages as well but no idea to the amounts needed to get it stable and 3dmark worthy.

i know cooling is an issue but i think i may be able to overcome that with a wide open windows a house fan and the side panel off :)

3DMark is a benchmark. As are things like Super-Pi etc.

Including a CPU-Z reading goes a long way to validating the speed.

cheers :D ill try 3d mark at 3.6ghz first
iam at 3 at the mo i will step up to 3.2 then 3.6 then ill stick it at 4 and check the temps in bios :D

you need to read your temps under load not bios temps. and good luck getting through the cpu tests in 3dmark at 4.0ghz.

oh i know that but if there in exess of 60 in bios i doubt i can run safely in 3d mark so ill just cut my losses and revert to 3.6 if that is the case

You are more likely to manage a 1mb Superpi at 4Ghz than 3Dmark. 3dmark 01 will be easier to run than say 06 or Vantage.

Bios temps mean nothing. Post your system spec here before you fry something. ;)

Good stuff. You might need a little extra voltage on the chipset with 4 gig of ram, keep that chipset cool too. :)
