I'm having real trouble overclocking my Q6600 most I can get even with massively upped voltages is 8x350 (prime stable that is) and I think I know where I'm going wrong.. my corsair xms is only 667 which is rated for 333Mhz and obviously increasing the fsb on my chip is increasing the ram speed past what its capable of? would this sound reasonable? would say 800mhz ram solve my problems?

yer. ive got serious trouble clocking a e2140, can only get 2.2ghz, the ram is 667. thus why i have 4gb's of ocz reaper on the way, there 1066mhz and should boost my system and over clock abilities a lot
your ram is bottle necking the system big time.
decent s/h ram 4gb if your on x64 3gb if your on x86 will be around £60
oh and go for 1066 not 800, for the extra few quid its a lot better

Why not do 333 x 9 for 3.2 GHz, till such time you can buy some faster Ram?

not only can i put x64 win 7 on i can up my clocks
bottom line is faster ram

Why dont you just lower the cpu multiplier and test if you can overclock your ram. Once you confirm if it can overclock, you will know its limit and whether it will in turn limit the cpu on max multiplier.
Most ram does overclock to a certain extent if you up the voltage and slacken the timings. You gain much more from overclocking the cpu than the little you lose on slack memory timings.

DDR2-800 would certainly be a step in the right direction but in your boots I would buy myself a big fat 4GB(2x2GB) set of used DDR2-1066 and then sell of your "Premium Lifetime Warranty" Corsair XMS @ auction!

I used to have a Q6600 G0 on an EVGA 680I board. I had no experience in overclocking yet (with guidence) easily overclocked it to 2.9 GHz without even changing the voltage. I settled on 3.2GHz, can't remember the voltage 1.28V I think.
Mind I was using some fast DDR2, OCZ Reaper 1150MHz, which I overclocked to 1250MHz which was a peice of cake too.
Got the RAM sitting in a drawer now, for when I can be bothered to sell it.

Incidently since I got banned theres been some developments. I discovered my RAM is infact 800Mhz and not 667Mhz which made me realise it was just my q6600 with 3.25 VID was poop. I managed to swap my q6600 for one with a much lower VID and it happily hits 3.4ghz now although at the cost of high temperatures.
Now I've got my free shipping back from being unbanned today I've ordered a Prolimatech Megahalems Rev B and a Sharkoon Silent Eagle 1000 120mm Fan
Incidently since I got banned theres been some developments. I discovered my RAM is infact 800Mhz and not 667Mhz which made me realise it was just my q6600 with 3.25 VID was poop. I managed to swap my q6600 for one with a much lower VID and it happily hits 3.4ghz now although at the cost of high temperatures.
