Hi Ive just built a new PC with this CPU and want to overclock it, ..can anyone tell me which is the best way for this CPU, Increase FBS or multiplier? Is it unlocked for this?

CPU is running at 46c on full load at stock speed so should be fine to overclock I reckon. (Ive read about 60c max on load for quad is well acceptable).

The fsb is at 272 at moment on my abit9 quad GT board , would upping it to around 300 be ok you think? anyone know roughly how much temp increase I would expect on full load from the 46c on load at 272?

This is the first time ive tried overclocking so any advice would be good

incremental steps are best, 5mhz at a time and then check the temps/run stability tests

as long as you don't up the volts the temps should stay around the same

Ok thanks. the fsb is 272 at moment, so I might try it at 280 first, and if thats ok,then increase by 5mhz at a time.

you might want to consider running orthos blend to stress the system for errors at each step. Twenty minutes or so should be a reasonable indicator.

Ideally you want your final overclock to run blend for a minimum of 12 hours with no errors, typically this would be done overnight. Best of luck .

I thought you could still up the multis even on the retail chips??, guess not. Mine can do 3.5Ghz with using upper multis and 266 FSB but wont go a single Mhz higher if I up the FSB so am stuck at a poltry 3Ghz 334FSB.

the multi's are unlocked on the extreme edition processors, not the bog standard retail one's were you can only move it down.

Ive just tried a small overclock to test it, upped the fsb to 280 and its stable 2.52ghz ..cpu still around 46c on full load. I'll keep upping it bit by bit. I'll be happy with it stable at 2.7ish as i dont wanna mess around with voltage changes etc.
