Is it worth getting one of these? I play bfbc2 and its just stutters and fps are too low for my liking so need a quad cheaply.

I have already had a Q6600 and ran it at 3.6ghz and my board will do 500fsb but the temps were too high for my old WC kit so i swapped it out for this E8500.

So what should i do?

Have you still got the Q6600?

TBH, I wouldn't suggest going with the Q8400 - its a high stock FSB chip and they have a tendancy to hit a CPU FSB limit reasonably early when overclocking. That said, it will run cooler than the Q6600.

If your water kit isn't up to cooling this chip @3.6GHz, you may want to consider switching to a cooler like this.

I would suggest that your CPU clocked to 4GHz as per your sig and that graphic card will have no issue playing BFBC2.

I kind of does. My last CPU was an E8400 @ 4GHz, I "downgraded" to a Q6600 @ 3.0GHz and the game just "feels" better. The minimum frames I am getting now are much improved. At a guess I'd say the minimums I have now are 2/3x as high I.E. 30 instead 10-15fps when things get hectic

i dont have the Q6600 aymore, swapped it for my E8500 last year, not going back to air cooling after water and dont have the cash to upgrade that just yet.

bfbc2 stutters like mad, i have to enable vsync to stop the stutters but that lowers fps a fair bit but tbh they are not much better without vsync enabled. snowy maps are around 30 fps but add that to the stutter and it's unplayable.

my brother has a tricore amd and a 5850 and his fps are fine and no stutter at all, even when running on 2 displays (only to test not play lol) so i was kind of dissapointed when mine ran worse when i got the 5870.

all other games play fine for the most part and i get good fps so im pretty sure its the cpu, what fsb does the Q8400 run at? i know its 8x multi but if i ran it at 8x500 would i not get 4ghz if it can run that fast?

To get an ATI frames boost:

- Set Catalyst A.I to max

Decent FPS boost:

- Documents>BFBC2 and open up "settings"
- Change "renderaheadlimit" to 0 instead of 2
- This changes the amount of frames pre-rendered by your CPU for your GPU

Bigger FPS boost:

- Documents>BFBC2 and open up "settings"
- Change "HSAO=true" to false (also settable in the in-game "advanced" graphics settings)

Other settings.ini changes that you can try:
- Overgrowth="medium" - This is for trees and the such.
- Undergrowth=”medium” – This is for grass and bushes.
- Water=”medium” - Map has a lot of water? Drop the quality for fps gains.
- MSAA=”2? - This is Anti-aliasing. Lower value = higher FPS but lower quality. (jaggies)
- Shadows=”medium”- You can also set this to low to improve performance
- Textures=”medium”- Setting this to low can improve FPS at the cost of visual eye candy.
- Aniso=2 - Set this to 0 to disable Anisotropic filtering.

To run DX9 for improved performance (this also stops random crashes for some people):

- Documents>BFBC2 and open up "settings"
- Add "DxVersion=9" to the list (without quotation)
- Alternatively, if you want to use DX10 or 11 change the value to 10 or 11.

Have you tried any of that stuff?

MM is the place to look then. Not sure if there are any available right now. Sorry we could not be more help mate.
