Hey folks;

I have been waiting on the Q9450 to be released/in stock, but noticed the price is quite high now, is this likely to drop anytime soon?

I don't want to buy one and then see it drop £50 the next day or so :eek:

I'll prob change my motherboard too, is the X48 a good bet to use with the Q9450?

Hi there

Pricing is high unfortunately at the moment.

All we can get our hands on is OEM chips which were having to pay more for than the Retail versions.

Intel are telling us we should see some Retail versions in May which will come through at better pricing, but if you want one now its unfortunately the OEM chips which are at a price premium and currently in stock at OcUK!

There's no way I'm paying £300 quid for this when Q6600 can be had for £120. I paid almost £300 for my old E6600 when it was first released. No way that's gonna happen again :o Besides, the performance gain is too small of a margin to be bothered.

They are 258 at ocuk...but your point is still quite valid :)

Me too. A retail I preordered over a month ago for £218 including VAT and free delivery. Not having any of these silly prices.

Seems intel has stock large stocks of X3350 ( Q9450 with xeon branding ), Pitty no one at ocuk got them at launch as no one in the uk was stocking them, you could have made a killing :)

indeed, these chips are great clockers, dont suffer from the FSB walls the 9450 seems to.

Hey, this is very interesting indeed. I was thinking about maybe getting something that would benefit my 3D apps a little more than the Q6600 I had been looking at, and this sounds like it could be just right, I was looking at the 9450, but I won't touch that with a barge pole now!

Any idea of a good mobo to OC these on, I think I'd go for a DDR3 and settle for 2GB until the prices drop, but I think in a few months time I'd regret not going for a DDR3 board.

If I do get a Xeon, I might run it a stock for now then get some decent 2x2 DDR3 and some water cooling later this year and crank it up a bit. But which motherboard to go for? I could still go to about £150 + VAT if the cost warranted it, any ideas? I was kindly recommended the P5K-E in my spec thread here, but that's DDR2, and aside from that I'm not sure if I'd be able to get the most out of the X3350.

I'd be very grateful for any help, even if it's just a pointer in the right direction.

Asus P5E3 Deluxe, tho the P35 based ASUS P5K3 Deluxe would do the job too.

will it work in standard desktop mobos like the maximus formula

why buy chip that its nearly impossible to get 4ghz just get q6600 and buy water kit for that amount of money and u go up to 4ghz and be happy :)
