Q9550 and DDR3?

I've got a server that I use to run VM's and want to give it as much RAM as possible. The Q9550 is currently sitting in a P5Q-E mobo with 8GB DDR2-PC8500 (4x2GB) which I'd ideally like to get to 16GB but I'm having trouble sourcing 4GB DDR2-PC8500 modules. Can the Q9550 go into a newer mobo which supports DDR3 as in:

G.Skill RipJaw 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-10666C9 1333MHz Dual Channel Kit [F3-10666CL9D-8GBRL]

It should be fine as long as the mobo will support 16gb of ram. I used my old q9550 on my current 790i board and this is ddr3 mate

yes as well as they 790i there are some intel based boards in the mobo section of ocuk

Thanks chaps. Asus P5Q Deluxe Intel P45 plus 16GB is ~£300 so am just weighing up my options. I'm happy to pay a bit more cash and am nerd drooling over the G.Skill RipJaw 12GB (3x4GB) DDR3 PC3-10666C9 1333MHz Triple Channel Kit [F3-10666CL9T-12GBRL] kits at only £100. 2 of those giving 24GB would give me an ESXi host that would last a good while. I do need to run some heavy VMs at home so I'll get the usage out of that spec but it just seems a shame to waste a Q9550.

You cant use triple channel memory mate. It has to be dual channel
