A very similar question to the Q6600 below...apologies...but will a Q9550 at 3.4GHz bottleneck a GTX580.

Looking to maximise quality/performance of BF3, ARMA2 and Skyrim but have a limited budget of £300 (plus proceeds from selling 5850 giving a combined total of £400).

For this amount I can bag myself a GTX580....but wondering whether the Q9550 would hold it back?

Might the Q9550 be better matched with a GTX570?

My current setup does not suport Crossfire/SLi. Game at 1920x1200.

Want to buy in the next couple of weeks, not interested in waiting until 7*** series.

Cheers,

I've just done a quick 2nd hand price check on the bay and reckon that I could get £275for my existing CPU/mobo/memory/GPU set up (this is after bay and paypal fees). Suprised how much Q9550's are going for!

Add this to my £300 budget and I have £575 to play with, therefore:

i5-2500k £170
P67 mobo £90
8Gb DDR3 £40
CPU cooler £25

Leaves £250 for a GPU...have seen GTX570's on a competitors site for this price!

Think I've just convinced myself...!

I know it's a lower cpu, but i had a q6600 @3.4ghz. I've got a gtx 580 and there was a big bottleneck. I've now got a I7 2600k and at stock speed it destroys my old quad, nevermind when i overclock it to 4.5ghz. The difference is massive.
