I had a striker 2 formula running my qx6700 and I struggled to get it over 3.4 stable, I swapped the mobo out and went with an xfx 780i it was cheap as chips of the famous auction site and I can hit 3.69 stable. However this is under a corsair h50 keeping it relatively cool. Personally I dont see the need for the speed as I only surf the net, a bit of light gaming ( crysis & crysis warhead ) music and word processing so I have it turned down to 3.3 its rock solid and very happy with it. Swap out the mobo man, they arnt great in my opinion run very hot and you can get a much cheaper one to do your massive oc if you so wish!!
 
I've got the same CPU, happy at 3.4, not tried to push it any further...from what I read there is no point going higher....
