QD-OLED & OLED below native resolution

Hi all

With how fast these displays change pixels do they provide a better quality image when displaying below native resolution?
My next monitor will be oled but I do not know if I want to stick with 4k or go back to 1440p.

The fundamental issue with displaying non native is that LED and OLED monitors are digital, unlike the old phosphor dot screens, so software that enlarges the image is more important rather than the speed of pixels. With something like DLSS this is negligible and usually decreases latency rather than increasing it. I believe the general statement on DLSS is that if it doesn't improve your FPS then it doesn't improve latency and you shouldn't be using it, but if it doesn't improve FPS then why the heck are you using it?

I've been wondering about this too as I still occasionally use my PS4 on my monitor and that is limited to 1080p

Oh, 1080P is much better with a 4K because it is exactly twice the resolution in all directions. Most 2K monitors will not display 1080P well without the help of a graphics card.

Below native won't look particularly good compared to LCD tech doing the same thing, still have that soft look to it - better using DLSS/FSR2 or similar.
1080p on 2160p screen has the option of integer scaling at least.
