Sinple question chaps. Anything wrong with using a qdc rather than a dedicated drain?

Ie unclip from component, clip into draining tube drain, reclip to component to close the loop.

I’m sure I’m missing something, but Im planning a smaller build and extra plumbing avoided would be lovely.

So long as you have a second opening somewhere for air to come into the loop it's a good solution. One way is to fit a QDC onto the other part that you've disconnected with a second tube.

Good idea. I was thinking just open the fill port on the res.

Thanks Forbes the input mate, I’ll revisit when it’s built.

I’m thinking this is what I’ll do in my new build.... Because of the size of it I am also this time going to fit ball valves inline, basically allowing me to shut off the flow and drain the components before removing.

That way you don’t have the pain of draining out the radiators which I then have to refill and get rid of air etc etc. It will drain slowly but ultimately less work I hope, could always add a T junction direct after it capped off to add air port but I think it’s fine without.

On the QDCs I presume they are all good and more reliable now?

Some are better than others. Acool have some black plastic ones in their ‘eis’ range, but I’ve not been that impressed by reviews, although the price is excellent. The black v3 qdc (alphacool?) still has the same corrosion issues as far as I’m aware, so I’d steer clear.

I think you still get what you pay for I’m afraid.

Yeah as before then, probably stick with a drain port out of sight somewhere!
